I need to cross the border (again!) in 14 days.

I am heading to Bangkok (from Krabi) and then down to Chantaburi. Does anyone know if any Cambodian borders ARE NOT operational around the Trat area or along the drive from Bangkok-Chantaburi-Bangkok?

The other alternative would be on the Burmese border (Krabi-Bangkok-Krabi)

Thanks

At the moment no problem with any border.

Good to hear and thanks for re-reconfirming and putting my mind at rest. I can't think of anything worse than doing the boring trek to the border to find it closed! :o

...Immigration Checkpoint...

The Immigration Bureau in Thailand uses the term “Immigration Checkpoint” to mean an immigration office where you go for your extension of stay, among other things, not a border or airport entry point into the country.

This is the first time that you have mentioned you are looking at Cambodian/Thailand international crossing points to obtain Visa on Arrival. Looking at your previous postings you are Slovenian, coming to Thailand initially, then travelling to Cambodia for a couple of months, back to Thailand for a few days and then flying back home. You are planning to get a tourist visa from your home country for your first entry into Thailand.

If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website is up to date (http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2491) then it would appear that you cannot obtain Visa on Arrival at any of the crossing points on the Cambodian/Thai border. << Maybe others with knowledge can chip in here >> If this is the case you would have to obtain another tourist visa in Phnom Penh to cover your second entry into Thailand. Note that the embassy takes 2 days to process visa applications unless you pay for express service.

you are right. that makes sense. thank you so much. i'll do that.

why are these visas so complicated?

NikkiZoe,

you are doing right to do your 'homework' before entering Thailand, and you are very lucky that thaiphoon is so attentive and goes the extra step to provide you with correct information. Why do I say that?

I've just come back from a visit to Cambodia/Angkor Wat and at the border I met a very desperate backpacker from Slovenia that was refused entry to Thailand! VAO for Slovenian (to enter Thailand) are not available at the PoiPet/Aranyaprathet border crossing. The only option she had was to get a visa from Phnom Penh (either by going there herself or use the service of an agent and wait 2 nights in Poipet) or go to SiemReap and get an expensive flight to Bangkok Airport (where the VAO for Slovenians is available).

Considering that Slovenia is part of the EU for years and even part of Schengen area (25 EU countries that abolished all border controls between each other), it is understanding that Slovenian nationals are easily mislead to believe that the rules for other EU countries also apply to them.
