Guys,

Have I missed something, just been looking at the immigration webiste as I prepare to organise my documents for the money requirement and I can no longer find mention of this.

Has there been another change I have missed?

The website is out of date. There have been no changes since November of last year when the 400,000 baht option was brought back.

The money needs to be in the bank for 2 months and the account has to be in your name only (no joint accounts now). Then a letter from your bank confirming the balance and a copy of your bank book.

Check with ur immigration office if a joint a/c is allowed before you upset ur wife. Phu Sing office does accept (and prefer) them over a new a/c. There is no regulation or official interpretation which discriminates against joint a/cs.

Be careful to recommend 2 months.

Some offices still want to see 3 months in bank.

Samut Prakan is one of them. :o

There may be some offices that will accept a joint account.

The olnly interpretation of thie police order I have seen says the following and is why most offices will not accept a joint account.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

It was a bit late last night when I wrote my reply and forgot the rogue offices that are asking for 3 months. Now it appears those now include Samut Prakan. Besides Pattaya and Chiang Mai.

I guess they can't read the rules.

Further on the joint account. In the past immigration has asked to examine bank books for proof of inward remittance to satisfy themselves of the "husband" having 400k in joint account. Suspect the "no joint account" is an effort by some offices to avoid this process (which many foreigners seem to find intrusive). So now we have jet another "if,and, maybe" to add to the memory bank.
