Extending a visa

Featured Replies

I was wondering how long before the expiry of an "entry" of a TR visa you can apply for an extension.  I will be visiting Nong Khai on a "jolly" about 14 days before my 60 days expires and was wondering if it was possible to 'kill two birds' by calling at the (VERY FRIENDLY) immigration to apply for a 30 day extension.  If you can apply so far in advance, do they date the extension from the expiry of the "entry" or from the date of the application?

A reply from anyone with experience of this type of thing with ANY type of visa would be useful. ::o:

Hi,

I'm on a Non-O visa with one year renewals and usually apply for renewal 30-40 days in advance. The extension of the visa is always from the expiry date of the original visa.........

BUT........

if the application is rejected you will have to leave the country within 7-14 days (depending on visa type) regardless of what the original visa says! It happened to me over ten years ago.  :o

Hi opalhort,

Thanks for the info, as I will be applying at Nong Khai immigration office (who as I said are Very Friendly) even if I am turned down I have only to go across the Friendship bridge to Lao to bring the next "entry" of my TR into operation.
