Plastic surgeons warn against fake botox

BANGKOK: -- Women wishing to cure their wrinkles by having botox injections could be putting their lives at risk by receiving fake treatment, the secretary-general of the Cosmetic Surgery Association of Thailand warned yesterday.

Speaking in response to recent reports of patients in the US becoming seriously ill after receiving counterfeit botox treatment, Dr. Nanthaphat Suphaphanchat said that anyone considering botox treatment should make sure that they were being treated by experts with genuine botox products.

Botox, made from bacteria, is normally administered through several injections which serve to relax the facial muscles and, thus, smooth out wrinkles.

However, there are certain side effects associated with the treatment, including the darkening of eyelids.

Dr. Nanthaphat also noted that botox is only one of a range of options for people wishing to disguise scars or reduce wrinkles, which included chemical treatment, surgery and laser treatment, as well as treatment using Vitamin A.

The best treatment, she said, is chemical treatment, which produces the most effective results and the fewest side effects.

However, she also noted that there is a range of chemical treatments on offer, and some are safer and more effective than others.

Has anyone warned about the fake Plastic Surgeons?

I went to the office of one of these people a while back.

The wall was covered with certificates which looked very impressive,

until you read what they said.............

Most stated that the Dr had "attended a conference............"

but did not say if he contributed, or just spent his time in the bar!!

Hardly worth the paper they were printed on.
