Do I Lose My Visa If I Quit My Job?

Featured Replies

Can anyone help????????

If I leave my job, I know I will lose my work permit but will I also lose my visa???

What happens if I dont work? Can I hang on to my non-b and just stay here for a bit?

I have had the Non b for around 4 years with my work permit, I just want to know what happens if I quit my job, and will it mean losing whats left on my visa?

Thanks alot

I believe that it seems you are on extensions, these were issued because of your job situation, therefore, you will lose the extension, meaning you must leave Thailand within 7 days of cancellation of job. But wait for the super mods to come on board and give you the best answer

I don't think you have a visa.

You must have an extension of stay. When your job ends your permit to say ends if you are on an extension based upon employment. You have to leave that day or get a 7 day extension (1900 baht).

If you had a multiple entry visa it would still be good and you could stay until your most recent permit to stay ran out.

As UJ said. If you have a Non B Visa you will be ok.

If you have an extension of stay you have to leave on the same day or apply for a 7 day extension from Immigration.

Thank you

That all seems to make sense. Would you be able to give me any more tips.

I have been working in the ramkhamheang project (maybe you know of it), which let me teach without a degree in govenment schools.

If i get a new job in a private school, still with no degree can i transfer my wp over to the new job so I dont have to do any running about to Loas.

Thanks again

It is possible to transfer a work permit. It takes cooperation of youir old and new employer to get it done. It means your new employer has to apply for the work permit on the same day the old one is cancelled.

After you get the work permit you still have to go to immigration and change employer for your extension. To do that you have to have a letter stating that your old job ends the same day you do the extension otherwise immigration will charge you for an overstay from the date your job ended until the date you apply for the new extension,

Ok Great!

Last question, how do they take away the extension as it is already stamped into my passport?

The extension is just no longer valid, if you stay longer and immigration finds out you will be on overstay.

All I can add is that there is no such thing as a 7 day grace period. Your extended visa expires the day that your work permit is cancelled. Yes, in theory, you can transfer your work permit within 7 days, but the application has to be made on the day that you leave your job. You can then apply for an extension of stay. Has anyone heard of this happening? 99% of schools do not possess the knowledge and/are too lazy to be bothered. For what it is worth, I know of at least 10 people who left their job with an extended non-B or O and have left after many months with no ordeal.

The no-grace-period rule appears to be new, absurd and onerous. Who would willingly overstay for months?

Not in every case. My new work place is in a different province than my old workplace.

After endless discussion, advices, tips etc.... I ended up in applying for a totally new visa and a totally new work permit.

My understanding is, that if you lose a Workpermit granted on a Non B Business Visa, you are losing the visa as well and have to leave within 7 days.

Otherwise, you might stay if you got your WP on a Non O Marriage visa.

It is all too complicated here....

You do not loose a visa entry (90 days) - only an extension of stay (which many, if not most have). And you no longer have 7 days - it ends the day your employment ends. But you can request 7 day extension (at cost of 1,900 baht).
