Best Method Of Sending Money To Thailand From Uk

Featured Replies

Hi to you all, i wish to send some money to my Thai GF to pay for the visitor visa application fee. What is the best method? i have seen what WU have to offer but don't want to pay the 14% commission. Is there a better method which is as safe but not as costly?

many thanks

SWIFT Transfer, from your bank account to her bank account.

You could check out moneygram from the post office....you fill out a form then forward the transaction ref no.to her.....all you need is the city where she will retrieve the cash...not too expensive and quick.....worth a look.....you are also told exactly how many baht she will receive

Swift transfer is the best option safe and fast, 20 pounds fee :)

Just chuck it to the winds. You'll not be seeing any of it again, and it might mean her boyfriend doesn't succumb to alcoholic poisoning.

I was going to say use a carrier pigeon with a fear of heights and Altzheimer's disease.

If you have some time open a cash plus pre paid card account have the 2nd card in her name mail this signed for enclosing it inside card to conceal it text her the pin number once she confirms she as it, this could take around 3 weeks from you applying online or at the money shop to her receiving it.

Its 3% foreign fee + £3 ATM fee from the UK end, then there's the 150 baht fee (£3) at the Thai ATM so its not cheap but convenient.

The best is swift & the Halifax do them for £9.50 all banks do them some charge £45 you will need her banks swift code & her account number this takes around 3/5 days normaly

Long term open a Nationwide cash card account it can't be over drawn she can only spend the money you put in there & its free to walk in the NW to add the cash & free of UK bank charges you will only be hit with the 150 baht Thai ATM fee.

Take a look at this thread it has more links for variuos ideas good luck.

Also a new idea that came up in the ATM fee thread is non bank swift transfers i've not studied this option to compare its costs but it another avenue to consider.

I used Foreign Currency Direct plc for about 6 years. Be careful on the rate they give you mind and check the charges. No point in sending small amounts this way.

However, they were good to deal with, helpful and you don't go through loads of BS like you do with a high street bank.

I used to just send an email and by the end of the day they'd sent it.

  • 4 weeks later...

When i was in the UK moneygrams was always the best by far, sending through the banks cost me an arm and a leg !
