Non B 1 Yr 90 Day Extension

Featured Replies

Hi

I previously posted a question about the 90 day extension once my visa runs out.

I got some great advice, however due to my bad planning the situation has changed.

Ok my 1 yr non b visa runs out july 22nd.

I am taking the family to Penang for a week, young boys 1st trip on a plane :-), flying out on July 17th.

So when i return on 27th my visa will run out.

What happens? Do i get a 30 day stamp? Told to go away?

If i did an exit before, so had a 90 day extension, would this become void once i exit or would the re entry stamp, post penang, be valid when i return?

The plan is to sort out marriage visa later in the year.

Thanks in advance

If you returned by air you would get 30 days.

If you did a border run somewhere before your holiday you would get 90 days. A Re Entry Permit from Immigration (1000 Baht) would keep your new permision to stay alive so you could go on your holiday and return with your permission to stay still valid.

Or you may want to get a Visa in Penang. Up to you.

There is a Thai Consulate in Penang and you can easily obtain a non immigrant O visa with marriage certificate/copy of wife ID card. That would be the obvious choice in my opinion. Single entry if you plan to extend your stay within 3 months or multi entry if not. If asking for multi entry probably should have a bank passbook with some money in it to show.

As your return is beyond the visa validity the extra 90 days would have to be obtained prior to your trip and then a re-entry permit to keep it alive - much more costly and involved than just getting a new visa on your already planned trip.

If you are going to be in Penang why not get a new visa. You can get a multiple entry non-o there based upon marriage to a Thai. Just show a little bit of money in a Thai bank account. You wouldn't even need to go to the consulate just let an agent take care of it.

You could do a border run and get a re-entry permit from immigration (1000 baht) that would keep your entry valid.

Ohterwise if you are flying you will get a 30 day entry.

This web site is increadible. The quality and speed of information can not be matched.

Can i clarify the 2nd option. My visa was issued in UK so can i qualify for a re entry permit?

What do i actually do with this permit, having never sen one.

Is attached to my pasport or do i carry and show when i retunr.

You can get the re-entry permit witout a problem. It is a stamp that looks like a visa stamp.

I have heard some horror stories, from the man in the pub, about Penang being particulary strict and having a high rejection rate.

As thi is our 1st family holiday i was not wanting to ruin it through visa issues.

However if the application is relatively straight forward it might be an idea.

My understanding is 400,000 baht in account for at least 2 months, ie from now

The only thing a re-entry permit (stamp in your passport) does is keep your current permitted to stay until stamp alive. It adds no time and does not extend a visa. I don't know if "Jul 22" is really your visa expiration or your permitted to stay but assume it is visa. So you can not use that for another entry after that date. You can give your passport to any number of agents in Penang and for about 200 baht extra fee and they will take care of the visa application/pickup.

Penang is very easy. All you need is marriage certificate/copy of wife ID card and a bank book with 100k or so in it. That 400k is a requirement for extension of stay - not for visa issue. For single entry you would not even need any financial show.

Bars are not a good source for visa information.

Brilliant info thanks, really appreciated.

Ok so now i am gonna be lazy.

Where is the Thai consul on Penang?

Thats all cheers

The northern suburb of Georgetown. About a 15-20 minute taxi ride from downtown and I always had them wait (but agree on charge first). They do not use meters. If you do it yourself have family go with you as extra proof you are in fact a family together. You will need photos and copy of marriage certificate/wife passport or ID card. Take a pen to fill out the one page form. Money must be local ringet. Should only take a few minutes to submit (morning) and you pick up next afternoon for non immigrant visas (same day service for tourist).

But as said many people use hotel staff or book shop based visa agents to obtain - cost is about the same as doing it yourself when you consider the r/t taxi fares.

FYI: every taxi driver in Penang knows the location so not a problem getting there.
