It's wise to squirrel away a few Baht so that one is prepared if the 800000 Baht in the bank requirement is raised.

Depends on what you want to spend your money. Airport bus A3 to Thong Lo cost 100 baht last year. Taxi would have been 400, the 300 bought me a few 'unwind after plane' beers. Also the taxi drivers were being bloody pests

one can cross the road (by bridge from Terminal 2 as I recall) to railway station (next to Amari hotel) and get a local train to Bansue (subway station there) or to Hualamphong.... a lot of bear sold there on the station too - can immidietly start to enjoy saved money !

or bus #29 (a lot others as well) to go to Mochit, Victory Monument, Siam square, MBK, Hualamphong. both would cost around 5 baht

any other suggestions for cheaper and more adventurous options ?

Cheap Charlie,

A taxi he takes, as far as it goes

When fare is demanded, true spirit he shows

He offers 5 baht and then states his case

Its 5 baht per person no matter what race

But Charlie likes walking, the better to see,

All those coloured balloons that fill him with glee

Where he might buy a drink, but eat plenty for free

If you buy him a drink and expect he’ll buy more

What will you think as he makes for the door

When its Cheap Charlie’s round he’s thirsty no more

He sits on the beach wall, wont pay for a chair

And he’s found a poor barber, it doesn’t seem fair

50 baht only for cutting his hair

No tipping from our friend, that wouldn’t be right

It would spoil all his fun at the end of the night

When he goes to bed dreaming of some other way

For saving 5 baht on his cheap holiday.

Made me think of a poster on TV a few months ago on the tipping thread(no names)
