Toyota have offered me the best price for my pick up on part exchange but now trying to decide between a Vios S limited or a Yaris S limited? Does anyone have either of these and have any feedback, positive or negative?

There is no major difference in price or spec but wanted opinions on is better. No comments about them being a girls car either!

Thanks

I have a Yaris, and have driven Vios a lot.

Yaris is more fun to drive, firmer suspension, less rear overhang, more easy to shift auto manual.

More practical too, with sliding/folding rear seats and hatch.

Higher resale.

Its not a girls car. Its a compact.

Thanks,

I'm leaning towards the Yaris actually which I never thought I would, it's actually very roomy for a small car, I'm 6ft 3inches and can sit fine with plenty of legroom.

I bought a Vios (2006 model) over a Yaris back then having driven both. The Yaris may look fun, but over time comfort was the deciding factor for a low end car. I am not so keen on the newer Vios tho but would probably choose it out of the two since its cheaper. I never really understood why the Yaris had to cost more? If you count the number of each type on the roads today you can see generally what the public think.

Yepp

In Europe there are 99 Yaris for every single Vios.

And 99 Jazz for every single City.

Wow, they must have changed with the latest models, myself 6.3 and 130kg find there is nowhere to put my left foot other than under the brake peddle, this was the same in the old type Vios and the old type Avanza

yes they have changed

Yaris and new Vios are the same floorplan, except for boot/luggagecompartment, and have very good legroom.

Old Vios is not similar to Yaris, except for engine.

Avanza, from Indonesia built on frame with rearwheeldrive/live rear axle, can only sell in Asia. Painfull to drive. Like a tuk-tuk.

Vios and City "sold" in Europe? I think your figures for Europe should be 100 to 0

True.

Not possible to sell small sedans in Europe last 10 years. I think all the manufactorers have given up. I just said 99 in case there are any. In US they call the Vios Yaris saloon or something like that.

I have Yaris (called Vitz) and it is a nice small car. The luggage compartment is small but with folding seats I can still take child's bike and she still travelling in 1/3 of the remaining back seat.

"Limited" meant about 2,000$ worth of extras:

Keyless access and keyless ignition

Disharged headlights

iPod stereo

Pearl white color

Brown-beige interior

(auto transmission, aircon, ABS, tinted power windows, windows flaps, 1.3L engine all standard).

If I had a very small (prem to be stored in the back) child or grown up/no children, I would have bought Vios. Had it many times rentacar, very nice and quieter inside.

Yaris is still a small car, on a highway you can't tell what song is playing in the CD, reasonably noisy, obviously not for longer distances.

Just ordered the Yaris this afternoon, the S Limited edition comes with many additional features including keyless entry, start/stop button, sports seats, disc instead of drums on rear wheels, front, side and rear skirts, aux input for stereo plus quite a few others which I can't remember off the top of my head. It has the same 1.5 engine as the vios but as it's lighter it's a tad quicker. As I mentioned already, I was surprised by the legroom, I'm 6,3 and no problems. The standard 15inch wheels will be replaced by 17inch ones when I get it which should be in the next week as they had already ordered one as a show car so not long to wait til I get my little Mariokart!

Have fun. Its a very nice kart :)

I just sold my today. 2,5 years/42k km as a Phuket Island cart, been off the island once...... Actually managed to cruise 160 to Hua Hin. Never a problem, except replacing the battery at 22 months.

Well actually Nope!

This is a Thailand thread so I was referring to the larger number of Vios on the road vs Yaris. The (Thai) public has spoken and having driven both cars in Bangkok I'd agree. The Yaris is a noisy rough ride since Thai roads are as rough as guts whether doing 160kph as you seem to like or the back sois of Bangkok where I have bounced my arse over more concrete pot holes that I care to recall. The Vios is nearly as rough a ride but the cost saving nails it for most Thais except the posers. Thats my take on things this side of the globe.

Ahh. Posers drive Yaris and old men with hat drive Vios in LOS. :):D

Ever thought about the practicality of having a large hatch and sliding/folding rearseats? Good for a wheelchair.

Vios have been sold in LOS for more than 10 years. Yaris started selling 2006. Of course you see more Vios than Yaris on LOS roads.

Besides, Im not a Yaris owner any more. But Yaris is still far more fun to drive than Vios, even over the potholes.

In my local Thai Toyota sales room there isn't even a Yaris to be seen. I cannot remember last time I saw one on road around here. Vios are everywhere. The Thais are quite practical when it comes to value for money. Agree Yaris maybe more fun, but that depends what fun is? For some there are more fun things in life.

I've got both and prefer the Vios.

It feels like you're sitting in a goldfish bowl being in the Yaris and you can't get 3 golf buddies and your clubs in it.

It's even difficult to get the weekly shoppping in it.

You can get x4 adults and x4 sets of golf clubs in a Vios? But I don't play golf anyway so no problem there.

When I sat in the Vios and then the Yaris at the Toyota dealer I couldn't notice any difference inside and the manager told me they actually had the same dimensions inside so not sure why the Yaris feels like a goldfish bowl but the Vios doesn't!

Maybe the Yaris has a lower waistline, ie more glass?

I have a 2009 Vios, bought it last September, and it's great. The gas mileage is unbelievable at 17 kilometers to one litre on the highway, and about 12-13 in town. Very comfortable. Great sounding sterio.
