Ever Noticed How B/g's Pray Before Starting Work?

Featured Replies

Sitting at a bar on the ground floor of Nana Plaza the other week I noticed that all the bar girls stopped and prayed at their respective little alters.

Not just some of them...ALL of them.

Now this somewhat seemed hypocritical to me and got me wondering just what it is they are actually praying for.

Are they praying for:

1) God to help them get out of this awefull mess they've found themselves in? (unlikely)

2) God to give them a rich jai dee customer tonight?

3) God to bless their family and friends?

4) Non of the above they just pray out of habit.

What else could they be praying for?

Yes good question! the offerings allways seem to be Fanta.

Fanta, is very close to a chinese word meaning prosperous. So they are praying for wealth.

An educated guess would be number 1 and 3 and most probably subsitute God for Lord Buddha.

I hope there praying came true and you obliged by number 2 . Somehow i doubt it with the content of your posts :)

Something to do with the colour, I think that red is a lucky colour or something.

Do you know anything about Buddhism?

Very clear the OP knows nothing about Thailand , their culture ,

and thoughts and believes .

Very much ignorant and lofty attitude you have there .

But you just could learn something from them , no matter you believe it

or not and the fact that you are in a different culture with different customs then your own .

Do you know anything about Buddhism?

The spirit houses do not have anything to do with Buddhism , has to do

with the believe of showing respect to the spirits , the spirits who inhabit the land they are on , and to help them in anything

positive , most of the time fortune.

They consider it bad luck if you don't , but Buddhism if you understand it has nothing to do with it .

I find nothing odd about them praying.  I find it quite reasonable.

But now, this red Fanta thing has got me going.  I am going to go crazy until I have a definitive answer!

They pray before preying on farang.

It's a hunting ritual.

And yes the spirit houses are more to do with Animisim and Bramn, not Buddhism - but the average bargirl wouldn't know that.

They asume the spirits prefer sweets , sweet drinks and ' hom ' flowers .

The fanta is easy to buy and everywhere available , thats your answer .

The travel itineraries : Home APT - BKK APT - Bar stool - BKK APT - Home AP

At least a question came in to the mind this time.

They pray before preying on farang.

It's a hunting ritual.

They have the practise in every busines and every home , nothing special

with the bargirls doing this . What you guys do all they ?

It was the references to God that I was commenting on.

Another condescending post by someone who knows nothing about the local culture.

Maybe they are praying for someone to find his brains quickly? :)

Why would it be hypocritical?

Guess he is pointing to himself , his understandings are . :)

Actually, Gautama Buddha is not a god, as western religions define them.

Why would it be hypocritical?

Praying for good fortune whilst selling their body for money! would this be classed as hypocritical?

What do you think The Lord Buddha's take on this would be? Approval?

Do you know what "Hypocritical" means?

Wow are you trolling or something ....

Buddha is not a God no ,

Although they say it is a religion , it really is not , it is a philosophy a way of living .

The Buddha is the man who has showed common people how to walk the walk .

In Buddhism its a fact that there is no such thing as a God ,
