Bringing Prescription Medications Into Thailand

I am taking 6 different heart medications. No narcotics. Just diuretics, blood pressure and heart rate regulators.

While these meds may be available in Thailand, my current insurance in the US covers these with a low copay.

I have asked a friend coming to Thailand and he has volunteered to bring me a 90 day supply of my doctor prescribed meds.

Will there be any issues at Thai customs concerning him carrying meds prescribed for someone else?

I think he may.

Thailand permits you to bring one months supply of most medication for your own use and may need prescriptions for it.

If it is for your own use it is possible that they will turn a blind eye to 90 days but I think your friend could have major problems.

When I came to Thailand I brought 3 months supply + the Drs Prescription.... No problem.

Found out later that ALL the Prescription only Medication in the UK can be bought over the counter here.

The drugs in question are not prescription drugs in Thailand, they are OTC. So prescription aspect not an issue.

It is however true that import of more than a 30 day supply of any medication requires a license.

Depending on what the meds are, they may be available here in a local generic that would cost less than your insurance copay (won't be the case if you are on anything very new that is still under patent).
