I want to order an Asus notebook from the states valued at 90k baht shipped via UPS

anyone can shed light on me to what % tax i could expect at the post office?

Is there an official Thai website that states the import duty on such notebooks...?

Flyer here - whenever I ship FedEx I include a commercial Invoice, samples or repairs, value less than $50.00

That way there is no quibble. They will get VAT off ya.

PS Why not try the locals? Is it a Netbook?

Don't ya think they might have a good idea that a 90k notebook is worth more than $50? :D

You could end up paying anything from 40% to 140% of the items value. My advice, don't even think about doing it.. :)

Try and get it hand carried in by someone, even if you have to wait. You take your chances otherwise, customs once tried to charge me US$ 600 for a single non-commercial poster (yes, a poster).

for farking sakes.... i was worried the tax was gonna hit 10-20% from the 7% i expect it to be...

but 40-100% is just absolutely ludicrous..... so I;m guessing that the money goes in their pockets?

question: did you guys went to the post directly yourself? would sending a Thai broker to do your biding help lower the rate?

anyways.. thanks for the serious heads up... :)! I can imagine how broken and wreck I would be on that very day at the post office

I'm getting in touch with some Thai friends over there

check it out here: www.customs.go.th

Yes, your notebook is subject to import duties and if it comes by regular mail you might be lucky enough that it just slips through.
