How To Get Passport For My 4 Months Baby?

Hai,i am malaysian and i have a wife and baby in thailand.We never register for marriage.Below are few question i would like to request.

Question

1)Is a 4 months baby need passport?

2)How to apply passport if he and the mother in thailand now?

If she is Malaysian I would check with the embassy about the need for getting a passport for the baby and registering the birth. Some countries allow for the child to be included on the passport of one of the parents.

Some more info would be good.

If the mother is Thai a passport would not be needed until you were to take the child out of the country.

If the mother is not Thai it would be needed to make the childs stay legal by the child leaving and returing with a visa.

Thanx..The mother is thai.So what can i do ?

She needs to get a passport for the kid if she plans to travel with the child.

Now if you are the legal father you need to be there to sign the application together with the mother. If you are not legal father then i assume she can do it herself and there is no need for you to go.

What is needed is the legal parents ID's (passport or thai id card) and original birth certificate for the baby.

If she is in Bangkok i would go to MFA in Chaeng Wattana road, takes about 10 minutes and cost is 1000 baht. For extra 35 baht they will deliver the pp to your door by EMS. No need for photos or anything else than mentioned above.

If you are legal father you propably can get Malaysian passport as well but for that you better contact your government offices or your embassy here in Bangkok.

If the applicant was born to parents who did not sign a marriage certificate, only the mother of the applicant can sign the parental consent form. She will need to bring a letter guaranteeing sole guardianship issued by her domicile district office (Por Kor 14) accompanied by her ID Card which must bear the title ‘Miss’.

The problem is that the child must be able to make a statement, next to the mother. I don't believe the law gives an actual age for this, but most amphurs seem to require that the child is at least 7 years old.

Edit:

Only when the father registers the child himself at birth there is (of course) no need for the child to make a statement.

Malaysians born abroad can be registered at Malaysian Missions on the conditions that:

o The father of the child to be registered is a Malaysian citizen.

o Registration is made within one (1) year from the date of birth.

Thanx guys for the precious informations. I think first thing i have to do now is to go Royal Thai Embassy,Malaysia to sign for the letter of legitimation of my child and send it to the mum in Thailand right?

No, you have to register the child in person at birth. Since you didn't do that you now have to go to the amphur together with the mother and child. But if the child isn't yet 7 years old you can only legitimise the child by petitioning the court.

If you already legitimised the child you need to sign a form stating that you give permission for your child to have a passport and send it to your wife.

If you didn't legitimise the child your wife needs to get a form from the amphur stating that she has sole costudy, this form is called por kor 14. Wiht this form your wife can request a passport for the child on her own.

Sorry for my mistake.I have registered during the birth of my child.(Forgotton because i only send all my personal documents to the mum for registration without personal attend.)

Since you are not married, you had to register the child IN PERSON at the local amphur. Being named on the birth certificate is not enough.

I dont think that is true. My daughter is 5 months old born in Phuket, Thailand I am British and her dad is Thai. I was so ill after the birth that neither me or the father went to the Amphur to register the birth, her grandfather went to register it himself as the mother and father do not need to be there a member of family can go for you. Along with this I sent a copy of my passport and my Boyfriends ID card as we are NOT MARRIED. I recently took my daughter to Bangkok to get a British and Thai passport, the thai passport was very easy my Boyfriend took her to do so and he was back within an hour, we then went to the British Embassy to register the birth and apply for a passport my boyfriend didnt need to go because he didnt actually have to sign anything anyway, within 4 days I received both passports and was flying alone with my daughter to the uk a week later, I used the UK passport to go out and Thai to come back in so no visas all very easy.
