100,000,000 Baht (tax Free)

some people choose Thailand because they own a 100mm Baht (or more) and because Thailand is one of the few countries which does not tax their income and where their money fetches double, triple and in many cases a multiple of value compared to other countries (which might have a better infrastructure and a better climate).

That might of been the case before but Thailand is fast becoming a expensive place to live(apart from accommodation)

ahyah,......and apart from food, transportation, schooling, petrol, heating and so on.

If you came here in the 80s and have 20.000 THB monthly and thought, that would be it till eternity, you have to consider to move to GOA.

If you were given 100,000,000 baht (tax free) would you still live in Thailand? I ask the question to see if people live in Thailand because of income reasons, or if they had enough money would they live somewhere else.

The beauty of the culture and the people might outweigh the perceived benefits of living in a more developed country for some people. Others may feel that modern amenities would be nicer. How would you decide?

thats not even 2 million pounds, would'nt get very far in london, might just about cover you in bangkok... i dont really understand your post, do you mean never working again etc... you would have to take age etc into account if so.. the answer to your question is yes though

Yes I think I would live in Thailand.

100 million baht is barely 3 million US dollars.

The U.S is a very expensive and wasteful place to live. You won't believe the junk you would buy sometimes and the overpriced fashion stuff.

With 3 million in the bank account you will be lucky if the socialist government would leave you a million tax free to live on. A house in L.a. already costs about 500,000 USD and another 100,000 for a nice car. Would you believe insurance on a car in Los Angeles costs more than the car itself over 5 years? That leaves about 400,000 US to live on. 40k a year you might be able to survive for 10 years before you have to come back to retire in Thailand.

Not mentioning the UK, a pack of cigarettes cost 10 pounds!

New Zealand is a beautiful place to live, however there's not much to do other than the good clean weather and scenery. The culture and food lacks comparing to Thailand. New Zealand must be the farthest place on earth. The nearest continent other than Austrailia must be antarctica.

Austrailia? It was someting like 40 degrees celsius in the shade last time I went there. Don't forget the top most dangerous snakes, spiders, and sharks.

It took some teething and a culture shock but I've learned to live in Thailand, sufficiency economy from the king and to be happy with what I have. Somethings you learn in Thailand you can never learn or experience in any other country on this earth.

Not mentioning the UK, a pack of cigarettes cost 10 pounds!

not quite here yet

For me 100,000,000 baht would not change my life significantly. Would still live in LOS but would probably travel a bit more.

Quite content with the life style I have in Thailand, would be tough to improve it much.

Good For you, that sounds like your at the Finacial Freedom Stage of your life. :)

Well 6 pounds exactly, but it feels like because that's like 10 USD. Even more expensive than New York City!

I was originally going to put 500,000,000 but I thought it might affect the decision too much. I think 100,000,000 is about what it might take someone to think differently.

I would estimate it would take 20,000,000 to buy a comfortable home in another country (nothing fancy). That leaves 80,000,000. If it earns 3% interest, that would provide 200k per month. At 5% it is 333k. If you are working, it is just icing on the cake or should I say money to burn.

Not that I have 20,000,000 to burn, the places mentioned are interesting locations to consider.

:) Even though I lived here for 7 years , Caught the "diasease" Thai wife and kid. I am now back for a few months. As some other astute posters mentioned That amount is about 3 million USD. I know several friends some who also live here or have lived here who are buying homes in th US at about 30-40% of their original value due to the huge number of foreclosures in the US available now. I own my home in the US but would buy something in Hua Hin ,where i lived for 7 years and then spend my time between here and the US with some other side trips.

I would have been out of here faster than the new ferrari would have been ordered! But I would not have lived in the home country, maybe the south of Spain or in Florida! A few years there would have done me good, even if I do not like most americans that I have met.

They can't be all bad! (ok, have a go at me!)

That's funny....we don't like you either!.....Don't come here!

500 million baht is a different matter. That would seriously make me think about leaving Thailand behind, but not forever.

200K per month in bangkok you can live with no worries. But in the USA 5K USD per month before taxes you are just another regular person.

If you were given 100,000,000 baht (tax free)

how about a cheque for 1,375,000,000 baht suddenly falling in you lap ?

would it change your life much ?

according to O.A.P. Brian Caswell from England, he says 'not much...'

he won £25 million on friday in the Euromillions lottery

rags to mega riches in a nanosecond :)

100 million Baht (3 million USD) is obviously not a life changing amount here in the US or most western countries however having more than that does allow many of us to lead very comfortable lives. I could easily live nicely anywhere in the world but even though I absolutely love spending a few months of every year in Thailand, I personally do not chose to live there mainly due to issues regarding my lifestyle of enjoying playing my outdoor sports in a more moderate climate like I have here in California or Hawaii, my many friends back here, never ending opportunities of things to do without language barriers, and not being considered a stranger in a strange land by the locals. If money is an issue, I can truly understand someone choosing Thailand as one can have a really good quality of life for much less. If someone however were to give me an "extra 100 million Baht" just to live in Thailand, I could overcome my issues and would move there tomorrow ! :)

What???? How is 3 Million dollars NOT a life changing amout for the vast majority of Americans? Have you been wealthy for that long that you have lost touch with the way most Americans live? If one where to invest it and only get 5% a year one could live comfortably off $90,000 for the first year with a 2% COLA each year. How would that NOT change the life of any working class, or middle class American citizen?

Actually that’s only about £1800000 or US $2900000.

Not a fortune in today’s terms.

If I had that sort of money, I would still live in Thailand.

Have at least 7 beautiful girlfriends, one for every day of the week, drink a bottle of best whisky per day, become a chain smoker and party all night long.

Probably be dead within a year, so It`s best that I stay poor and maybe live for another 30 years at home with the wife, the occasional night out on a budget and each year begging Immigration to let me stay here.

Just a extra 100 million baht!Sounds like loose change to you.Must be a nice predicament to be in,when this amount of money would'nt be a life changing experience. Is this the typical reply I'd expect from a American?

Englands a good place to live when youre making good money and have a nice bit of skirt, the New Forest (Hampshire)doesnt have any scumbags and is immigrant free, aesthetically its perfection personified for 12 months of the year. Would do me!

England is a popular place to live for 25-50 year old, upper middle class people from German speaking countries. Only drawback is the never ending rain.

That's roughly $3m USD if my arithmetic is correct. If I were given that kind of money, I would still follow my current plan which is to live part of the year in Thailand, part of the year in the US, and do some traveling. I'm looking to keep my existing house in Thailand, possibly buy another Thai property such as a flat or condo either in Bkk or a resort area, then also build or buy a second house in the US, and have a nice RV to travel in when in the states. Having $3m extra probably wouldn't change my plans too much, but would afford me the opportunity to look at nicer properties in more select locales.

There is nothing wrong with them and I wouldn't say, that people from within the EU are immigrants within the EU.

When did Pakistan, Somalia and Nigeria become part of the EU?

Try moving to Slough or Brixton and come back with the same opinion, but maybe you want to live in a area that is polluted with 3rd world immigrants where its unsafe to walk home during the day or at night.

If i had the money an area in England where predominantly English live isnt too much to ask for, or are you lefts fascist globalists going to deny me this right.

"silly question though, unless you win the lottery or something."

"Or something". How about working, saving, and investing? That's worked out very well for some of us and, as another TVer posted, it's only $3m USD. How about posting a really really really big number, something really really really outrageous. Something that's really really really spectacular and noteworthy. "What would you do if someone gave you 100 BILLION baht? No, make that 100 TRILLION baht."
