Dogs And Warts.

Featured Replies

I have a 20 week old Bullmastiff, I have noticed today that she has a fairly large sized wart on her lip and upto 5 others on her chin and inside of her lip. They have only just recently appeared and i haven't mistaken them for her Jowels etc etc.

She is a clean dog who is bathed once per week and my other 3 Thai mungrels are also in very good conditon.

Do any of the vets on board have any explanation for this ?

Is it likely to spread any further and is there anything more i can do to prevent this?

Any advice is most appreciated.

hi, this sounds like the papilloma virus. the warts look like cauliflower and are usually around and insinde the mouth/lip.

it is spread from dog to dog, mostly young dogs will get them once and then never again, and is not dangerous, will go away in a few weeks by itself. don't try to remove them by yourself. these warts could only be dangerous if they grow inside the nose and block it, but that is rather rare.

Thanks for the quick response Elfe, I hope it isn't serious like you say, however i wouldnt describe the warts to be cauliflower like for the time being, They are pretty rounded...

Thanks for the heads up Elfe and Nienke, I shall let the virus run its course and keep an eye on it.
