Preventive Medical Checkup/scan

Featured Replies

In Holland, Germany and UK there's a clinic called Prescan. http://www.prescan.co.uk

I'd like to do a preventive medical checkup, do any specialized clinics like prescan exist in Thailand?

What i want is:

- a total body scan, MRI/CT (all organs + head)

- custom bloodcheck ( i want some additional things to be checked like a complete hormonal profile)

- Joints scan (knee and lower back)

- stool tests

- dermatology test (check if there are any abnormalities in my skin + labtest)

- etc.

At age 52 I had a total body scan just for general purposes...and to avoid a colonoscopy. I was glad that I did it. All turned out well. They did find a cyst on my...hmmm...forgotten now which organ...but they discussed how that was entirely typical at my age and what to watch for and what to tell a doctor if pain there ever developed.

My one caveat is that the levels of radiation are quite high. You might want to research that a bit. From what I have read, once is pretty much okay, but each time you repeat a full body scan, your chances of having problems because of it increase exponentially. There's tons about it on the web.

Where did you have that full body scan done?

Sorry, in my case it was in the States.

I have to tell you the funny part. After the scan and after getting dressed they sat me down in front of a large monitor. The photos started coming back beginning at the top of my head. The first thing the doctor said was, "No signs of dementia." Very funny," I replied. He said, "No, actually I'm serious. That is one of the things that we can see visually. And, not a bit of plaque built up in the arteries in your neck. A very good sign." It was an impressive tool.

Virtually all of the major farang oriented hospitals in BKK (Bumrungrad, BHN, Samitivej, and others) have checkup packages, typically differentiated for men and women, and by different age groups. Usually, they detail what services are provided in what package, and usually list those on their web sites along with the package prices, which range from a few thousand baht to 10-15,000 baht on the high/largest package end.

In some/many cases, the patient can also order/request additional services not included in the package on an ala carte/discounted basis. That said, in having looked at several of those in the past, I don't recall them including, or offering, whole body scans as part of the process.

I'm not sure which hospitals in BKK are equipped to provide that particular service. But most of those hospitals have email contacts on their web sites, and I'm sure they'd be able to answer the question for you...as to whether they have that particular service available.

After a bunch of whiskies, I failed the stool test, fell right off.

:) Sort of reminds me of when I was a principal in the States. I walked into the ESOL (English-As-A-Second-Language) classroom and the teacher had labeled almost everyone of the items in the classroom so that the students could see the English words. I walked up to where she was standing and pointed to the stool next to her. "So, this is your stool sample?" Of course, it went right over the heads of the students, but she burst out laughing...I'd never even seen her crack a smile previously.
