Internet - Searching For A Very High Speed Internet

Featured Replies

My company is looking to have regional office in Bangkok. We are highly dependant on the Internet and speed play major part of our business.

What is the standard high-speed Internet connection possible in BKK? Are providers generally good and can they provide high speed for fair price - we are looking minimum of 10mb connection. Preferly at least 50mb.

All support highly appreciated!

The speed ranges you require are most likely not available in Bangkok, at least not at affordable (i.e. sub 1000 US$/month) prices.

Many big multinationals have chosen to invest elsewhere due to this very reason.

Up to 6 Mbps is available, and with the proper equipment and set-up can be reliable as well.

I'm talking two different ISP's through two different phone line providers and all hooked up to a load balancing/fail-over router.

For this you'll still have to cough up probably in the area of 300 - 500 US$/month

If your dependent on high speed internet, i would not locate to Bangkok LOL

Three years ago our head office was looking for the same.

They were offered a tunnel solution for at least 100,000 Baht p. month (as far as I remember it was even a higher price)

A well known Thai ISP gave a quotation and discounted it down to 1.7 million Baht p. year.

A Monty mentions: a lot of companies refrain from establishing business in TH because of that reason. Even if those speed requirements can be

met the charges are astronomically! Yes 20.000+++ Baht solutions are available but in the long run they are going to cost you a lot of money.

Ha! This may be Asia but it aint Korea. Keep in mind that whatever you find (I think 10 is the max), that's only guaranteed within Thailand. You'll still probably only have a meg or 2 outside the country.

My Humble opinion you will be hard press to find a true VERY HIGH SPEED INTERNET here I have tried several over the year they all seem to fairly fast at first, then over the course of a month or so the SPEED comes to A CRAWL. :D:D:):D

In theory at least, 10Mbps is now available for affordable prices in a consumer package with TT&T's "3 BB" package for B1490. See: http://www.maxnet.co.th/promotion_inside.php?promtid=73 for the advertising, and Tt&t's New 10 Mbps Consumer A D S L Package for a thread discussing the package.

Would it be safe to assume that if TT&T can offer this as a consumer package, that some ISPs will offer it also as a business package (i.e. lower contention ratio, higher upload speed, perhaps?) for a more reasonable price?

That is written on this Promotion page.

I understand it says "the company reserves the right to deliver lower speed... and speed depends on how many users are on the network.

Maybe somebody can translate it better?

Web - there is no need - thats the standard 'get out of jail free' monopoly card.

None of them are serious about hi-speed Net in Thailand - yet.

I do know that for good reason, all the TV servers are based in SG, which of course does not

guarantee speeds in LOS - no further debate necessary

How about this... Translated as best as I could:

หมายเหตุ

Remarks

- ความเร็วสูงสุดขึ้นอยู่กับจำนวนผู้ใช้บริการขณะนั้น

Highest achievable speed depends on the amount of users connected to the service at the time.

The Company reserves the right to deliver speeds which may be lower than the advertised speed due to limitations in network infrastructure and other factors.
