Hi Everyone, and thanks in advance for your advise and help!

I am arriving from the USA on August 29th with a 60-day (single entry) tourist visa. I'm taking a class and I intend on staying and teaching.....

Because I plan on staying I got a one-way ticket from the USA BUT, I bought a cheap ($20, AirAsia) one-way ticket from BKK to KL exactly 60 days (October 27th) from the day I arrive. I got that ticket so I'll have no problems at entry and it's cheap enough to toss if I can't use it for a change to a business visa in KL when I have a job. I realize I can get a 30-day extension if I need to but here is my real question.....

I'd like to visit Cambodia on October 22nd for a couple of days with some friends. What should I do since I have a single entry tourist visa? Can I, before I leave the USA, attempt to get a double entry 60-day visa? Should I do something in BKK before I leave for Cambodia? Should I do something instead in Cambodia to re-enter? I have no idea what to do about this?

Also, is it best to get a Cambodian visa in the USA before I leave or at entry to Cambodia?

Thanks!

You may be working before your trip so no reason to make plans that far ahead. You have the ticket out on about the 28th of October to KL I believe? So on your return from Cambodia you just get the normal 15 day land entry visa exempt stamp and that will cover you until your trip to KL for a new visa.

Would be best if your tried to get a double entry tourist visa, so you could use another entry when you come back.

If you can not get a double entry, when you re-enter Thailand by air you will get a permission to stay for 30 days. if you nter Thailand aain by land transport it will only be 15 days.

You could apply for an extension of stay for 30 days before you go to cambodia and apply for a re-entry permit. You could then stay in Thailand till Nov. 26 when you return from Cambodia. This will cost 1,900 for the extension and 1,000 baht for the re-entry permit).

I think you should get a 30 days extension of stay (in BKK) based on your tourist visa before your trip to Cambodia and at the same time get a single re-entry permit.

Extension: 1,900.-Baht

single re-entry permit: 1,000.- Baht

This should keep you safe in TH 'till about 24/25 Nov.

edit: looks like I wasn't fast enough for the experts to answer. please listen to the advise from the expert posts above.

Thanks for the info! I'll attempt a 2-entry visa to begin with and take it from there.

But, on the Cambodian visa.....if I have the time here in the USA is it a good idea to get that visa now or is it just as easy to get it at the border?....I guess I also save the express mail maybe too since this is required, LOL.

By the way, is there a limit on visa runs for tourists? I mean after you have the 60-day visa and get the 30 day extension how many times can you keep leaving and getting a 15 day or 30 day entry?

Also, if I need to get the 30-day extension do I have to provide a new air ticket out?

By air with the 30 day entries . No limit. At land borders the limit is 4 times back to back.

You can apply for a Cambodia Visa online. (I had to remove this or I couldn't post,...it said I couldn't post a URL, LOL)

Thanks!....So, you're saying I should get the visa before leaving the USA and not get it upon entry to Cambodia?

Also, if I get a 30 day extension after my 60 day tourist visa will i need to show an air ticket out of the country?

1. Up to you. You can apply for a Cambodian E Visa online in Thailand if you wish. It would save a bit of time at the border and save a bit of space in your Passport.

2. It is a routine procedure to get a 30 day extension. Just fill the form in provide a passport size photo and pay the 1,900 Baht fee. No problem.
