Price For A Unit Of Electricity In Phuket ?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone summarise here please?

What is the highest price anyone should be paying (i.e. the true cost, not the cost demanded by the landlord or management company?)

After tax, surchage, VAT, yada yada yada, I come out at 4.14/unit on 3 phase and the biggest meter that is available, and I'm a serious mid 4 digit unit user per month.

Yes, 5400 units at the domestic rate will give you a bill of around 22,500 baht, which works out at an "average" of 4.14 baht per unit.

Do you live in a very large fridge? :)

Depends on the number of units you use. If the landlord doesn't tell you, you're S.O.O.L.

If you do know the number of units, you can work it out from here.

If you're maths isn't too good:

"average"....... # Units

price/unit

inc. FT & tax

3.213 ............. 150

3.260 ............. 160

3.301 ............. 170

3.338 ............. 180

3.371 ............. 190

3.401 ............. 200

3.427 ............. 210

3.452 ............. 220

3.474 ............. 230

3.494 ............. 240

3.513 ............. 250

3.530 ............. 260

3.546 ............. 270

3.561 ............. 280

3.575 ............. 290

3.588 ............. 300

3.600 ............. 310

3.611 ............. 320

3.622 ............. 330

3.632 ............. 340

3.642 ............. 350

3.650 ............. 360

3.659 ............. 370

3.667 ............. 380

3.674 ............. 390

3.682 ............. 400

3.694 ............. 410

3.705 ............. 420

3.716 ............. 430

3.727 ............. 440

3.737 ............. 450

3.746 ............. 460

All the above based on the Residential rates (1.1.2) in the link above.

20-30%.

As I said a single phase government 100 Amp meter is now 4,04 baht/unit incl Ft and VAT.

0% change.

If you give more details of the units used and cost, I can tell you what rate you're on. Providing an average of 4.04 makes it impossible for me to work it out.

You may say the price for electricity has not changed, but since its not possible to purchase electricity without the constant increasing Ft, the total price of electricity on my PEA bills have increased with 18 % from June 2007 to june 2009. At least for my 4 properties in Phuket.

But I m not complaining. Its reasonable. If I run a fridge, tv, fan and waterpump like they do countryside, its almost free.

For my largest house with 10 aircons I have to pay 4,04 baht/unit.

I didn't say the price hasn't changed, I said the residential rates haven't changed. I also said that the FT goes up and down like a tart's drawers. And it doesn't just go up, it went down in February, June and October 2007.

Your house with 4.04 baht/unit is using about 1450 units/month on the domestic rate, giving a bill of about 5,860 baht.

I insist you immediately change your nick.

"Beach bum" indeed! :)

"Beach bum" indeed! :D

Love to bum on the beach :D

I learn more english every day, but what does "change your nick" mean

thanks

:D

"nick" = "nickname" - yours is "katabeachbum" which is probably about as accurate as mine is: "JetsetBkk" - haven't been on a plane in years, and don't live there anymore! :)

This has all been very helpful but a bit Greek to me. When I handed over my calculation basis the published tarrif which showed me being overcharged by 11,000 bht in one months the reply got was 'well this is a three phase system'. From what I am reading here this should make no differance, correct ?

All meters display the amount of electricy used (usually in Kilowatts) no matter whether single phase or 3 phase. But be careful as I have one single phase meter from our private transformer which does not display Kwatts, for some reason I have to multiple the meter reading by 3 to get the Kwatt value as shown in the monthly bill.

Please help me with my problem! Our developer says they will charge 4 baht/kW which is fair.

Our metre read 725.92 on one day and 726.55 on the next (unoccupied then) I think Kw. The developer calculates that day charge using (726.55-725.92)= 0.63 and then multiplies by 20 = 12.6 and then multiples by 4 (for baht) = 50.4 baht for that day (unoccupied).

My question is, why multiply the day kW use by 20? I asked but they said its just the metre specification.

have a look at the meter.

Is it from PEA or private?

How many turns for one kwh?

Does it say reading must multiply with 20 to get one kwh?

What is unoccupied? Was mainswitch shut off?

Or was fridge/freezer running? Waterboiler for coffee? tv on standby? computer/printer on standby? hotwaterboiler connected? all these use power even if there isnt anyone home

50 baht for 0.63 units for one day's electricity in an unoccupied building? Something not right there! What 's it gonna cost when you move in? :)

Regarding farangs vs. Thais being ripped off... my g/f is being charged 6 baht per unit in a small room in a Thai only apartment block in the middle of Phuket town. So it's not just us farangs being screwed.

Regarding the power being used in one day, the fridge was on, pool pump being on timer, so amount of power used may be OK. I just dont understand the 20x conversion. I'll look at the meter and see if I can decipher any need for a conversion factor!

Oh... a pool pump working +fridge. 50 baht/day sounds very reasonable. Your meter must have a 'shunt' which just happens (??) to have a x20 multiplier. Best you ask the PEA (Phuket Electric Authority) office in Patong. Just note your meter reference number.
