Hello,

I went to the immigration office (ayutthaya) on the 17 of March of this year, for apply for a spouse visa (change my ED visa by a spouse visa), they gave me first a visa for 2 months, on the 15 of May we went again there, and they gave me 2 months again and they asked me to call them after a month for know if my visa was ready, tomorrow 23 of July my visa expires, i call them everyday but they just say "Mai mi", they don't have it. The second time they asked for a map, but nobody came to my house to visit me and my wife.

I would like to know if this is normal or not, i will go to the immigration office tomorrow and i would like to know what will happen.

Thanks.

Sorry for my english, french citizen.

It seems they take a very long time to process your application. Many people have problems if they want to change from education to an extensioin based on another reason.

I can't say what will happen tomorrow. Your guess is as good as mine. Since they tell you that they don't have it yet, they will probably extend again for 30 or 60 days.

You might consider going to a neighbouring country and get a non-O visa there, that might be less frustrating.

Did you fill out a TM.7 for a one year extension of stay with your spouse? Or did you try to convert your visa using TM.86 or TM.87? What did you pay (as that will indicate what was done)?

If you used the TM.7 for extension of stay are you using 400k in bank account? Has the money been there for more than 2 months and has not gone lower than 400k? Is it still above that lever?

Usually on a long delay it is because there is a problem with account and they are waiting for it to remain above the required amount for the required time.

TM7

Maybe 1900B, i'm not sure, i think we pay that amout two times already.

400K, the money it's there for 4 months now and never gone under 400K.

I gave them all the papers they asked for and everything was ok 2 months ago, we are just waiting the visa, they said (2 months ago) this should take about 1 to 2 months, but now the time it's over and they don't have anything for me.

We called them everyday for a month now, they just say, we don't have it, call again tomorrow or in two or three days, but now i don't have more time, tomorrow it's the last day on my visa.

The requirement is that the money be in account for 2 (or 3) months so you did not qualify on first visit. You were probably provided a 60 day extension of stay to visit wife (no financial account needed) to allow time for the account to meet requirements. On second visit you applied for the one year extension of stay and that is normally approved in one month (but there is confussion this year about how long the money must be in account with 3 months being required by most officers). But as you don't believe anyone has checked on you it may be a local police delay and Bangkok waiting for there report. I would go tomorrow and if not ready they should provide a new extension of 30 days or so and do not believe there will be any charge. So some cases do take much longer than normal. I have seen people post 5 month delays so would not be concerned at this point.

That's right, the first time the money was in the bank only for a few days, they gave me 2 months for the requirement, and then we get 2 months more after that for apply, and now the time it's over.

Thanks for your answer.

I just came back from there, my visa expires today, they told me to call them again... tomorrow... 1500B for the taxi just for that.

I asked them about my visa expires, they said not important.

So now i don't have any visa but this is not important.

I just would like to know if this is the normal procedure.

Thanks.

It is normal procedure, that they don't extend your permission to stay till you have the final aproval. And it can take a longer time to get aproval then the normal 30 days.

The same thing happens to me every year. They don't give a new stamp in my passport and they just tell me to call them when I would get problems with the police (if they would check my passport). They are systematically 1 or 2 weeks late, no matter how early I apply for the extension.

The best survival trick for staying in Thailand is probably learning how to accept and relax.
