Fortune Landed On Paradise Island

Samui Island in Gulf of Thailand has prospected in the past. However past year has been exceptionally misfortunate. Despite lowered hotel rates and special promotions and discounts tourism is

Bo Put expected to fall 30 plus percent % from last year. Political unrest, economical collapse and swain flu are main reasons for this downward spiral.

Many luxury hotels and boutique villas, including that of David Beckham, have risen to this paradise island in fast pace but now shops, bar, hotels, restaurants and other businesses and holding breath and keeping thumbs up that end of the year will get better.

La Fortune junk was unlucky when winds suddenly picked up. Scale forced winds came from nowhere. In order to save the dock being pulled off, junk took off and tried to head in to deeper waters. Instead engines failed to help out enough and it was close to run into smaller speedboats and even hit a bar on the beach on its battle to stay off shore.

Eventually it landed heavy on sand with five speedboats along the Bangrak beach. Junk did get a minor damages but nothing crew couldn’t handle. After four days of digging and fixing La Fortune was waiting tide to set sails back in to its regular business.

Maybe “La Fortune’” landing on Samui’s will bring fortunes for its people too. At least one of the crew members saw it jokingly that way.

La Fortune is owned by two French men. It makes charters on Samui – Koh Phagnan watershttp://www.citizenside.com/en/photos/boat-accidents-sinking/2009-07-27/18379/fortune-landed-on-paradise-island.html

Was/is La Fortune moored at Petcherat? If so wasn't there a crane involved trying to lift one of the boats out?

It was an informative post. Not an exercise in English, and as such conveyed the information relatively accurately.

Re-floated tonight with a little help, about 1830 and moved (hopefully) to safer anchorage.

Great that she made it! :)

I'm surprised they got it out so fast. This photo is from Thursday and it looked like they still had a long way to go. I walked by it last night and was surprised to see nothing but a big hole like a meteorite had hit.

It was turned facing into the swell and the plan was to recruit 4 elephants (honestly!) to do the pushing and pulling. However costs and tusker insurance finally

precluded that idea. A large Thai fishing boat pulled her off the beach but she got stuck again on sand about 60 meters out. By this time the tide was going back out

and it was decided to power the Rescue RIB in front and around her to help create waves and shift the sand. Combined with the fishing boat pulling,

this seemed to do the trick.
