The Amora is not the hotel it used to be.. I brought there some friends a couple of weeks ago...

they left after 5 minutes it's not clean and pretty rundown...

I'll sugest you look for an other hotel.. there are plenty and they give great discounts.

Centara Duangtawan Hotel; 132 Loykroh Road, Chang-Klan, Muang, 50100 Chiang Mai. Good staff, pretty good fitness, and very good swimming pool for the money. Also less than 1/2 a block to the Night Bizarre.

Yeah, Ridges is a bit naff and the pool is small and only gets partial sun. Dungtawan would probably be better as it's within easy walking distance of Night Bazaar and Anusarn Market for outlaws and Loi Kroh Road for dad :) This hotel also has proper triples last time I looked, ie - separate areas for other bed, although that was around 5 years ago.

If it were now, I'd go for Le Meridien as prices are right down and it is a proper hotel, but December will no doubt be full price.

The Empress is well priced (3 star ish, just south of city), does a really good breakfast buffet and the triples have three proper beds - ie, not a put-me-up. It is farther down Chang Khlan, though (10-minute walk from Night bazaar). The staff here are also really nice, a far cry from the mopy so n so's at Chiang Mai Plaza.

Imperial Mae Ping....right around the corner of the center of the night market and around the corner from the top end of Loi Khroh... nice pool and nice rooms and usually reasonable priced

Last time I stayed at the Imperial Mae Ping (a few years ago) I was really disappointed. The room was really old (as is the hotel) and the cost considerably more than the Centara Duangtawan - I actually switched hotels midway through my stay (they are around the corner from each other).

I completely agree regarding the Le Meridian, but I would guess it is very very expensive - superior Sunday buffet brunch. Seems to be a true 5 star resort, and right in the middle of the Night Bizarre. Great location. If money was no issue, it would be either the Le Meridian, or the Shangri-La which has an excellent fitness facility and swimming pool. The Shangri-La is also close to the Night Bizarre.

Update gratefully received.
