Can any of you single malt scotch drinkers tell me where I can buy some decent scotch. (Bowmore, Highland Park, Lagavulin? I mean by the bottle. getting tired of Johnny Walker and Chivas.

Next to Scotland, I think Thailand is the land of Scotch whiskey.

Try Tesco, BigC, Just about any place that sells alcohol will have a great supply of different Scotch.

Myself I don't like it. Tastes like burnt wood.

I noticed Big C were selling Glen Morangie different ages a bit pricey.

sorry but you obviously have no idea what good single malt whisky is. The crap that they sell here is just that - crap. Anything remotely good (e.g. Johnny W blue) is extortionate in price. I can only imagine Glenmorangie would be similarly priced.

And how you can say Scottish Whisky tastes like burnt wood, but you fancy some Jameson's is beyond me.

Johnnie Blue is blended "not single malt" Maybe you were not inferring it was a single malt, but your statement could be construed that was what you were saying

And it "Johnnie" as I spelt it so maybe you are not an expert or a connoisseur of any whisky be they blended or malt

And whilst on the subject "next to Scotland, I think Thailand is the land of Scotch whiskey" the majority of Thais would not know a quality whisky from moonshine. It's all about status. You can't be a "hi-so" if you got a bottle of 100 Pipers on your table.

But decant a bottle of 100 Pipers into a Johnnie Blue bottle they would not know the difference.

And finally whiskey is produced in the US whilst whisky comes from Scotland. That said you will get whiskey from Ireland.

I'm well aware that JW Blue is a blended whisky, but as far as blended whiskies in Thailand go, it's probably the best.

I am from being a whisky expert or connoisseur, but I know enough to realise that the whisky on offer in Thailand is either of low quality or way overpriced.

And finally, since American whiskey got its start from Irish and Scottish immigrants, I think what you meant was - whiskey is produced in Ireland whilst whisky comes from Scotland. That said you will get whiskey from the US.

Sadomnoeng,  which is on the left hand side just before Porn Ping Tower on Charoen Prathet rd has a reasonable selection, including single malts. I pay 1600B for Laphroaig!! Glenfiddich is about 1500B.

I recommend the duty-free shops at the border near Vientiane, Laos if you ever happen to be that way. I stocked-up when I was there last year. They had a very good selection of liquor and excellent prices. I looked for some nice bottles when I was in Tachileik a couple of weeks ago but didn't see anything special. Maybe I was looking in the wrong shops.

The small Carrefour between Hang Dong and San Patong has quite a good selection of single malts - was able to get my favourite Macallan there recently. Maybe the larger store on the Super Highway would carry more?

With the same thing in mind I just took a look in their (relocated to the corner beyond the bakery) wines and spirits department and the most adventurous they get is the fancy Glenmorangie varieties which never appealed to me much anyway, the original being the best. I also dropped by the usually well stocked liquor store on the corner of Huay Kaew Road and Canal Road but they stall out at Glenfiddich.

It was the 12 year Sherry Oak. Bought it together with a months' worth of groceries, so I'm not 100% sure on the price but think it was a little over 2000 Baht.
