Maybe I should have posted this somewhere in FOOD but it is more of a general interest question.

Why is the sale of alcoholic beverages banned between the hours of 2 to 5 in most shops but sales of it in Villa Markets are never questioned?

That is like asking how far away is infinity. :D You should know by now that very little that happens in Thailand actually makes sense. :D I do know that the expats in Thailand are not going to change anything any time soon. :D

This law was enacted to stop school children from buying grog. The reason it is only really enforced in the 7/11s and Lotus is because they have electronic cash registers and the alcohol sales are entered with a code number that can will show illegal sale times if audited by officialdom.

Good old Mr and Mrs Somchai who own the local quickymart just put the money in their pocket, no receipt, no proof of sale.

It is only enforced in certain 7-11 and Family Marts and Supermarkets.

The management have an agreement with local police, if they don't pay the tea money they enforce the 2-5pm rule.

But what's to stop schoolchildren buying booze between 11am and 2pm and between 5pm and midnight?

Why not just ban ALL sales to under 18s and let over 18s buy whenever they like?

Don't be silly, that would be sensible and acctually work :)

4pm today at 7-11 the wee lad wouldn't touch

the beer I put on the counter, but sold me a

bottle of Gilbey's gin.

I'm as confused as anyone over this whole issue.

Is there not some other way round the beer buying

if you buy a huge amount? I was told that if you load

a trolley with the stuff then you're okay. Fact or fiction?
