On my last job at a goverment school I worked via a language school for about 4 months and they took out about 1700 baht per month for taxes even tho I didnt have a Work permit.

Now I work at a different school and need to collect these taxes for payment to the goverment if needed. I contacted the owner of the school and he told me I could pick up a receipt from his company to show I payed.

My question is... is this correct? Could he have sent the money to the goverment without a Work permit for me and IF he did, how do I get it back (REFUND) without a Tax ID?

Any Answers?

My first employer in Thailand took out taxes, the second didn't. both are govt. school who are too stupid/lacking intelligence to figure out how to get work permits for their employees. I got a receipt every month (only about 900 baht/month on 25K salary; 1700 sounds high). I was told I could never file for a refund because I'm illegal and don't have a tax number. I was also told the money was probably never forwarded to the tax authorities, but was probably pocketed by the school (I don't know).

Good luck. This is Thailand, where you have the same rights as illegal Burmese street sweepers.

Sorry Mate, the tax Thang sound about whatever, your THAI ADM folks say it will be.. You should be able to pick up a type of documentation for taxes paid. Depends on the "Don't bother me" factor.

Carry on.. :o

Yeah, to second what I think Rhys was saying, go get whatever receipt they'll give you. I've still got mine from 2003 and 2004. It might come in handy during Songkran to wipe off the water.

When they started taking the tax off of my pay before i had the TL or the WP, i was thinking the same thing that they must have pocketed the cash. Turns out the admin really did send it but who took it at the other end with no tax number???? Gotta love Thailand
