Hi everybody.

For the second time, I'm tell that it would be easier for me, if I marry my thai boy friend, to get the residency (even nationality) than it is for a man married to a thai girl...

I have serious doubt about this as I find no document saying so but in a way, it makes sens considering the thai vision of marriage (and the parts they give to spouse and husband)...

So, if any one knows any thing about that specific point, I would appreciate him or her sharing his/her knowledge...

Thanks.

It is much easier to remain in Thailand on extensions of stay (no financial requirements for wife) obtain PR status and to obtain citizenship.

There is a pinned item at top of page outlining PR process and you should probably read that (although mostly about men). You might want to ask questions in the ladies forum as some there may have gone through, or are going through, the process.

Hi Robert, is it only easier for a woman to get PR with 3 yrs wp or for men too?

If she gets married to a Thai male she can stay here based on this without any financial requirements for wife or Thai husband.

I do not think she even needs to get a PR before a she can apply for a Thai passport as a woman married to a Thai can go straight onto the house registration book if they have been married for 3 years or more.

Then after being on the house registration for 5 years she can apply for a Thai passport.

A foreign woman can skip the Thai PR process.

Or so I have read here , see post 8:

'easy' is a relative term.

A foreign wife married to a Thai citizen must be married (from memory) for 2 to 3 years before she is eligble to apply for Thai citizenship. This is reduced to 12 months if they have kids.

The sure, you can apply. And then wait, and wait.

My wifes application is 2 years and waiting.....

Absolutely...

It is a discriminating policy that Violates the Equality and Gender protections in the Thai constitution against discrimination based on gender, and various United Nations treaties to protect the Family, which Thailand has signed. An attempt was made to organize Thai wives, because it actually violates their rights to have and support a family, as their Foreign husband don't have any rights here.

Enjoy your good luck
