I am thinking of moving to Thailand and will have to put some money into a Thai bank as my pension is not sufficient,so, how do you do it?

Finding a bank is one thing, had read the forum, but, when the account is open do Thai banks take cheques in GBP sterling? GBP sterling cash? A cash transfer from the UK is possible but might me expensive, anyone got any experience or advice?

Thanks chums,

Exeter

The banks will take GBP cheques, but they take an age to clear.

GBP cash. Sure, the Thais will readily grab that.

IME Cheapest and safest is a transfer from the UK via the banks. Make sure that the UK bank transfers GBP and does not convert to THB in the UK first.

SWIFT is the safest, cost depends on who you bank with in the UK, Nationwide charge £20, some are less others more..

Checkout your branch.

As already stated ensure transfer is in Sterling.....xchange rate better over here.

Suggest that you talk to HSBC in England, they provide a very good service in Thailand.
