Samsung P2270 Monitor

Featured Replies

i have a hp compaq notebook two years old and have just bought a samsung p2270 monitor. Is it possible to upgrade the chipset and if so what is the best option to get the most from this monitor and also when i connect to my hdtv.

thanks

no need to change the chipset, with a simple gma950 you can output 2048x1536 at 75 Hz without any trouble.

By chipset I assume you really mean the CPU (chipset is northbridge and southbridge soldered on the mobo), which can be changed on some notebook mobos, but usually an expensive proposition. Check if your notebook CPU is removable or not before taking another step, if yes then be ready for a price shock. The Western Digital WD-TV HD media player is an excellent standalone device that plugs into the HDMI socket on the TV and will 720p movies very well on the TV. Available in many shops in Pantip, cost about 4k baht. Do NOT buy others that look/act like the WD unit, no assurance of operation or quality.

Sounds exactly what i was looking for and trying to do. I now understand what you mean about motherboards that have the chipset on it. better off with a wdtv hd media player. just one quick question with a downloaded hdtv (torrent) do they look much better than just playing them from the computer using monitor cable vga.

Thanks for your help.

First thing first, running HD media on a laptop is a hard work, unless you keep the laptop cool.

I’ve Laptop HP dual core 2.8 with 2 gb of ram, does go suddenly OFF after running 35 mins of HD movie. (too hot)

running HD on laptop is not hard at all, my guess is you have an old Pentium 4 laptop not a modern core duo.

i did not say about cpu, but as stated, laptop gets Hot when runs HD media (like 1080p format) even sometime it stops on 720p, provided make the laptop keeps cool.

BTW. i bought mine on around 2 years ago with the following specification:

HP Compaq Presario Notebook C793TU

ntel® Pentium® dual-core processor T2390 (1.86 GHz, w/ 1MB, 533FSB) {{{Sorry i wrongly type before 2.8, but its 1.8 dual core)

Intel ® GM965 (Crestline GM)

Memory

1024MB DDR2 667, 120GB Hard Drive 5400rpm (Serial ATA)

Optical Drive

DVD+/-RW Drive (Super Multi DVD Writer Dual format, Double Layer)

Display

15.4" TFT WXGA LCD Brigtview

Intel Extreme Graphics - Intel GL960 with shared video memory: up to 256MB for >= 1024MB system RAM

Connection

10/100 LAN Ethernet, high speed 56K modem, 802.11b/g Wireless LAN

Ports

(3) USB 2.0, VGA, TV-out (S-Video), Headphone Jack, Mic In, AC adapter 65 watt, Kensington Lock, Webcam Built-in

Warranty

Limited warranty 1 year, Weight 2.9 kg., 6-Cell LilON Battery

OS: DOS

its not p4. anyway.

cheers... :)

the frequency(2.8 giz) made me think of old pentium 4, the laptop is maybe faultly, i got a HP with T5600 and when the temperature reaches a high value, the frequency is automatically reduced to the minimum until the unit is cooled down.

it'll not solve your heating trouble but did you upgrade your bios to the latest one? so at least you won't lose your work if you decide to watch a movie.

i upscale all my movies to 1050p using ffdshow to adjust the movies to my screen resolution and i haven't got any trouble so far, cpu use is around 70%

I checked my chipset , it is a 945 express chipset family and 60mhz and intel core2 cpu t530 @1.73ghz and 1.49gb ram.

Actually i am having no problems watching hd from my computer to my TV using vga. My only problem is I feel the color output to both my monitor and TV should be a lot "stronger" than what it is and would an upgrade in chipset do this.

Or as was suggested in another post go to a hd media player using hdmi.

Thanks for your help.

playing full HD is possible but not all compression method because only the cpu is used in our cases :)

you can adjust the colour(in the properties of your graphic card) or post process your video using ffdshow.

changing the video card is not possible and will mostly not change the render of colours on your monitor.

to be sure you have true colours calibrated with a professional equipement(the same used by the graphic industry) you need to use a ICC profile, here's the one matching your screen.
