OK. So thanks for the weak arguments on why not to get it done, but I would still like to know where to get it done in Phuket, if anybody knows

Dan, I am sure they would do this a one of the hospitals there. Why not check out the Phuket forum on here and ask around?

Not looking to the why's or why not's... as it is a personal matter for the parents to decide. A bit of practical suggestion:

Find a pediatric surgeon. Do not let an Obstetrician do the procedure. I'm not sure about Thailand's hospitals but in the US 90% of circumcision procedures are done by obstetricians, and 10% by pediatricians. However 90% of obstetricians do NOT use any anesthesia, whereas 90% of the pediatricians DO. Peer review journal studies have shown indications of trauma related behavior in infants much longer (extending to many days) in those infants who did not have anesthesia than those who did. (The study monitored feeding behavior, crying, excess movement, etc.) Ask if a nerve block or other form of anesthesia will be used.

I cannot imagine the common concept held by obstetricians that the infant "will not feel it." It would be nice to take a few obstetricians and try the procedure on them to see if in fact it does not hurt them. We could give them a spoonful of sugar to keep their mind of the pain that they will not feel. (The sugar thing is really done, and these are real facts).

Also do not let in intern (practicing medical student) perform the procedure. There are several cases where electro-cautery devices in the hands of inexperienced personnel have removed the entire tip of the organ, not just the foreskin.

Finally, instruct the surgeon to not remove excess foreskin. A very common problem that results from over-zealous removal of tissue is what is called a "hairy penis." This is a situation where, when erect, the hair extends as much as half way up the organ which can make intercourse uncomfortable. Appropriately done this situation does not occur.

Debates on 2 snip or not 2 snip aside: Answering the question of where: Personally when it comes to anything important medically in Thailand I would always go to Bumrungrad. I know you asked for Phuket, but my choice would be to buy a few plane tickets and pay the extra. I would consider anything to do with my genitals, my childrens genitals, or my wife's genitals as extremely important indeed. There are some excellent Thai and Indian surgeons there, and probably a muslim or two with the utmost dedication and specialism in this field. The chances of something going wrong are probably small. Why not make them smaller and go for a top class quality international surgeon and make that chance even smaller. Would you really want to look back if something went wrong and say yes but I saved the price of an air ticket and the hospital was cheaper. A few thousand baht vs a beautiful shining manhood? :)
