Deke Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Does anybody have recommendations concerning locally-manufactured or imported straw balers? What kind of money are we talking about for something portable/tractor-powered? Who are reputable manufacturers/suppliers? Also, is there such a thing as a "standard size" bale? What are the dimensions of that "standard"? Thanks in advance for any information.
pnustedt Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I bought one of these a few years ago for about Bt400K, so add a bit for inflation: http://www.siambaler.com/

If you don't mind, about how many bales do you think you can realistically make in a day? Also, what length of bale do you make? Is that based on weight/ease of handling, or something else? Thanks again.
pnustedt Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 It's difficult to give an output rate - there are so many variables - but when working the bales come out at about one a minute using a 50hp tractor. We charge our customers by the unit so, for them, the bigger the better, about 1 meter long is normal for us, our competitors usually make them a bit smaller.

How much do you charge per bale?

The Siam Baler website refers to two bale dimensions, 39 x 47 cm and 36 x 47 cm. Using your one meter length, the bale should be between 0.1692 and 0.1833 cubic meters of straw. At a bulk density of 125 kg/cu.m, the bales would weigh between 21 and 23 kg. Does this sound about right? Thanks again for your help.
pnustedt Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 We normally charge about Bt14/bale. Your figures sound about right (but the bales feel heavier at the end of the day ).
Deke Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 Thanks again pnustedt. Is anyone aware of any local manufacturers/distributors in addition to Siam Baler?
rice555 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Hello Deke, it's been a while since I've been by the shop, but the Nagano(Thai made tractor) dealer across the street from The Mall Korat at one time had a unit(don't know the brand) behind the shop in their yard. It might be worth a phone call. 044-837180 fax 044-837179 The shop is a 3 door roll up, about 40m E of the ped overpass at the W end of The Mall(BKK side). Closed Sunday. rice555
