This is beginning to look like a fetish thread for guys who like shiny headed men. :)

:D

Where is Kojack (Telly Savalas) or Issac Hayes. :D

Anyway, I think Howard does an overall good job considering all the drunks and what-nots he must deal with. Whenever I pass by I always try to say hello.

Dunno - HM knows I expect. I've seen the Hummer around, but never anticipated a farang would be in it. This def is of no use to tourists. Only thought is perhaps a consultant training the BIB on SWAT tactics and operations. :)

SWAT team was a disgrace. They should not be patrolling around. They should not be involved in car chases and they should most definitely not be opening fire on vehicles in public places, with the intention of causing an accident.

Have to agree what a disgrace to policing. Look like a complete bunch of renegades from those clips.

Still curious about the Farang?

there have been lots of comments on police standards in this thread which howard is not responding to; posters have referred to his cherry picking and lack of professionalism.

he himself says it is good entertainment and that he is only accountable to his bosses. that and some of the earlier clips would ensure he would not even get to first interview stage in uk policing ( and possibly other western forces)

i thought he handled some of the recent problems rather well though and came across as trying to be very fair. but taking all the video evidence he does seem to have an attitude problem.

they have a difficult job and some volunteers came across well.

the "don't resist us" was his biggest faux pas. pity he has done some good work

We were talking about the SWAT team, nothing to do with Howard.

It's actually a good thing he is not like a UK plod, they are pretty much all pre programmed unintelligent robots, doing a great job of hassling people in their everyday life, but, very little to fix anything serious. Howard seemed to sort everything out fairly and with diplomacy in the latest episode, something the plod in the UK would be unable to achieve.

To be honest I have think Howard deserves a little more credit than he has been getting, and I did think he has handled some of the problems well. As you said the "do not resist" was not one of them. I think in the last episode he came out of it well, and I am not going to bash him, as it's a bloody difficult job.

What concerned me more was the SWAT team - now they really do look like a dangerous bunch of renegade mercenaries who like to throw there weight around. I am curious about the involvement of a Farang (South African?) who was all kitted out and involved with this band of legal thugs. Like to know more about that, but seems not a lot of info, or anyone willing to provide it.

good luck with that. Dont think the answers will be flowing out on this paticular group.

They look well funded thou with humvee, vests and assault rifles.

Wonder what return the financier is looking for. :)

Having seen all the episodes to date, what does surprise me is the lack of Thai language skills of the volunteer police, considering they have to deal with Thai people on a daily basis I would have thought that their Thai would have been much better.

There are obviously lots of questions about the "SWAT" team of Pattaya (please note I call them "SWAT" and not SWAT in fear of offending any genuine SWAT Team members from other countries who may be reading this).

I have some very strong views about the Pattaya version of "SWAT" and serious concerns but I really don't want to comment on their work on a public forum as I feel it would be inappropriate considering my position as a Tourist Police Assistant. Sorry, but I hope you understand my silence regarding "SWAT". I known a lot about their team, their training and motives, but they have big Guns which they could easily point in my direction, all I have is an extendable baton and a set of handcuffs....who will win!!!

Fair comment howard.

Thank you Howard for the explanation about "SWAT", reinforces my suspicions further about them and their motives.

Wasnt the farang SWAT guy Sifu McInnes, boss of McInnes Corportation the company that bought the yellow Hummer and Honda Gold Wing (?) that they use? And probably chipped in for the Oakley shades too - essential whilst on night patrol.

Has nobody pointed out "Mr Farang SWAT" wore his baseball cap the wrong way round and had an awful shaving problem? Was he active when the sh*t hit the fan or did he just rock up after they'd already cuffed the guy? He really didn't look like well-trained material to me (I"m no expert, by the way), let alone a leader or trainer!!

Hi

Looks like the 'McInnes Corporation' - who someone earlier said funds the "SWAT" team - is actually into developing property in the Pattaya area. Google it and see. Language options on their website - English and Russian.

Curious, but sadly unsurprising.

The sort of weaponry that team carries seems a bit over the top - even for Pattaya. Maybe they could be relocated to Narathiwat?

Have to agree, that it is way, way over the top. The car chase was shambolic, dangerous and reckless. Worrying having those type of people carrying around that sort of gear.

Howard came across as professional and accomplished in the latest episode.

The ''SWAT'' team ( SWAT = Special Weapons And Tactics) were a bunch of very poorly trained and inefficient chaps, although looking the part, they fell well short of the International Standard expected of such specialist unit.

Bit like playing 'cowboys and injuns', the main trouble is that it was featured in a built up area like Pattaya, with indiscriminate firing of weapons, the warning shots, then shooting out tyres, shots again indiscriminately fired to prevent the suspect from fleeing the scene.

Whilst under arrest and handcuffed the suspect gets a kicking from a 'member of the public'.

A weapon was indeed found on the suspect, the actual facts of his misdeeds were given in a garbled account by a 'western looking' male, with an accent (baseball bat worn back to front = Cowboy). Is he the Person in Charge of the unit...??

With the berating of Howard and the TPV Assistants, surely this so called ''SWAT'' Team and it's training, leadership etc., should be of far more cause for concern than HM..??

I agree, credit should be given where it is due, and the more I have watched Howard, the more that I have become impressed.

As for SWAT - awful and worrying.

^Perhaps the SWAT (hate even saying SWAT clearly they are far from it) need a dedicated thread themselves? :)

Go on then Brit, I'll leave you to do that. :D
