Ayutthaya To Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I plan to visit CM with friends later this year, and probably will drive by car from Ayutthaya.

Just wondering - what's the best/shortest/fastest way?

:)

Ayuttaya- Ang Thong - Singburi - Uthai Thani - Nakon Sawan- Kamphaeng Phet - Tak - Lampang - Chiang Mai. This seems to be the fastest route and when I use it from CM - Bkk it usually takes around 7 hours.

Yup, agreed. Basically it's following Highway #1 all the way to Lampang, where you turn left on to Highway #11 to Chiang Mai.

Google Maps will show this as well if you plug in the departure and destination.

If you want to stop somewhere, Kamphaeng Phet is interesting.

Agree with the route, drove most of it twice last week. The stretch from the 'border' of Khampaeng Phet province to Tak city is a nightmare due to the road surface breaking up badly. This makes large trucks & VIP buses swerve all over the place & even Fortuners were driving inside the inner safety median!!! :) This happens again just after you enter Lampang province, but only for a few kms. Apart from that it is a breeze, visually scenic & the food court at the PTT garage just outside Khampaeng Phet is clean, the food tasty, the Amazon Coffee shop serves good hot & cold drinks and the toilets are clean. Enjoy the trip.
