I am an American and have lived in Thailand for almost 5 years. I have a Retirement Visa, and have had one for 4 years. I am 55 years old. My fiance is 26 years old and is going to school in Thailand. She is here on a Cambodian passport.

We are getting married soon. Our plan is to stay here in Thailand. Can I add her to my Thai Retirement Visa after we are married? Should we get married in Thailand, or out of the country? Are there any legal prerequisites that I should know about before we get married that would help to facilitate her addition to my Visa?

Juggling this Cambodian passport for her is a pain and it is expensive. And at some point in time, she will finish school and things will possibly become even more difficult.

No flames please. We have been together for three years, and have heard it all.

Thanks in advance folks!

It does not matter where you get married. The only difference would be that you would not have to have the marriage certificate translated and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you apply for the extension if you got married here. But getting married here would probably require a lot more paperwork than in Cambodia.

She will need a non immigrant O visa to get the extension done so that will mean going to the embassy in PP to get a single entry.
