Hi

I hope that I have posted this in the correct section of the Forum

Having waited nearly 3 months, the UK Boarder Agency have returned my Thai wifes papers/passports etc and have supplied her with a Biometric ID card, all well and good, which now replaces a stamp or visa in her passport.

Having looked on their website, I couldn't not find the information which I ask here, and I am sure that someone will have knowledge of this:

I understand, that the Biometric ID replaces a passport, however, Mrs P and myself are planning to go back over to Thailand for a short trip, and I am wondering how the ID will be received at BKK international Airport ?

Will they want to stamp her Thai Passport, or will the ID card suffice ?

Will there be any problems ?

It seems an odd situation where a Thai National is returning to her home country on a UK ID (not a British Passport)

Therefore I am left wondering whether perhaps it will only be used for entry/exit from UK ports, and that her Thai passport will still be necessary at the BKK immigration desk?

Any advice on this matter would be gratefully received.

Thanks P.

She will still use her Thai passport for entry to Thailand and for her return to the UK. She will use her UK ID card to gain entry into the UK.

The card does not replace her passport.

As already pointed out, the card does not replace the passport as a travel document - this from the UKBA website:

"If migrants travel outside the United Kingdom during their time here, they need to show the card together with their national passport at the port or airport when leaving the United Kingdom. They must also show their card and passport at any overseas port or airport before starting a journey back to the United Kingdom, and again when they re-enter this country, to prove they are allowed to return to the United Kingdom."
