I have a non-imm. O visa (spouse visa) and I don't work. I have to renew my 1 year visa in January and have heard a few different stories. I couldn't find anything on the homepage about it.

I have read a few topics on here but it just was not clear for me.

Do I need 800,000 baht in the bank? The money is not a problem, but I was told I need to transfer it from an oversea's account and not deposit it myself here in Thailand.

If so, can I just go on a tourist visa after this visa expires and then apply again for a 0 Visa (spouse)?

What would be the best option?

For a 12 month extension based on being Married to a Thai Lady you need,

400,000 Baht in a Thai bank . It has to be there for at least 2 months before applying. There is no requirement for it to come from abroad.

OR 40,000 Baht monthly income.

If you cannot meet this you could get another Non O Visa Multi Entry from KL and possibly Penang.

The 12 month extension would be preferable as you would not need to do border runs and it would be cheaper.

Is that all?

So I can just put 400,000 baht in my Thai bank now and all is sweet? Just seems to easy. My friend was saying 800,000 baht plus this and that while telling me what he thinks of Thai immigration lol.

So is he just full of it or is it that easy to extend?

No. With the extension you have to report to Immigration every 90 days you are in the country.

From the Police Order. There are a few other things you need. Ask again a bit nearer the time.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

The 800K number is for a retirement extension.

Not hard at all. Just apply for the extension at immigration within the last 30 days of any of your 90 day entries once you have the money in the bank long enough.

You will need your marriage certificate, wifes house book and ID card plus a few other things dependent on which immigration office you use. After you make the application you will have a 30 day under consideration period before your extension is stamped in your passport.

"With the extension you have to report to Immigration every 90 days you are in the country."

Since in most cases you can report by mail, it might be clearer to say;

'With the extension you have to report your address to Immigration every 90 days you are in the country.'
