Driving To Cambodia For 3 Month Visa Run

Recommended Posts

My girlfriend (thai) is driving me to the Cambodia, on Saturday, for my 3 month visa run (I have a 1 year multi entry visa)

What border is best to go to? Is the casino border recommended?

Are there fees? Aside from the 2 day overstay I will have to pay....

What problems might we encounter?

Thanks!

You will need a visa for Cambodia at 1,000 baht plus or $20 if very lucky.

You could be detained if stopped by police en-route to border. That could be detention and court. There is also a possiable problem of Cambodia not allowing entry to an overstay person. Both are very unlikely but serious enough to be put on home page of border Immigration web site such as below:

Where you go depends upon where you are starting from.

Most visa runners go to Aran (Poi Pet Cambodia) but there are 2 others that are a bit farther south of there. They are Pong Nam Ron (Prum) and Ban Laem (Daung) which are less busy.

You will need to park on the Thai side of the border. It is possible to drive into Cambodia but not worth the trouble for a short stay.

I disagree.

If the car is in your own name taking it across is easy and allows you to explore

the Cambodian province you have crossed into.

I used to cross at Ban Laem, near Trat.

Firstly you must carry the car registration papers.

Tell immigration you are taking the car across. The will note the fact.

Then you go to the customs post, across the street for more paperwork, not difficult.

Now you can drive across and clear immigration on the Cambodian side,

after which you must go to the Cambodian customs. They were charging 100baht a day

the last time I went. They also gave me a temporary Regn number to display in the car window.

I agree with this, it is reasonably painless. I take one of my motors at least once a month to Cambodia through Hat Lek in Trat province. My wife

fancies a bit of gambling at the Casino, I fancy buying some(sadly, expensive) duty free. But most of the time we go to see friends in Koh Kong and enjoy a beer including some parang food or go to the waterfall.

You are officially not allowed to take your vehicle beyond the border province, e.g to Phnom Penh, for example. Thai are reluctant to have an agreement because a great number of stolen vehicles end up in Canbodia!

Is it possible to do a visa run across the Cambodia border at Chom Pass near Surin?

You can cross into Cambodia at Chong Chom. It is just south of Kap Cheong.

I think this is the crossing you are asking about.
