Tourist Extensions In Koh Samui?

Featured Replies

Hi!

My husband and I are planning a two month holiday in Koh Samui. We are from Australia (in our 20s), so we can enter Thailand without a tourist visa for 30 days. After that, I understand we have to apply for an extension of the tourist visa for the other 30 days. Can we do this on Samui? Do they have an Immigration Office there?

Thanks!!

(We are taking the advice of people this site and coming for a longer stay before making a more longer-term move to Thailand.)

You will need a Visa if you are planning on staying longer than 30 days.

Get a Tourist Visa in Australia . They are free until March 4th.

This would give you 60 days. Can be extended for a further 30 days at Samui Immigration for a fee of 1,900 Baht.

With a 30 days stamp the most you could extend by would be 7 days. that is asuming the airline let you on the flight without a Visa and a flight ticket leaving within 30 days.

The longest extension you can get is 7 days with a visa exempt entry.

You should get tourist visas before you leave Australia. A single entry would give you 60 days that can be extended for 30 days. A single entry is free until March.

Edit: List of consulates can be found here. http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/address.asp

Suggest you any consulate other than Sydney or the embassy. They are honorary consulates and will be easier to deal with and give better service.

Tourist visas are issued for 60 days. Thereafter you can extend for a further 30 days if needed at any immigration office (including Samui). Fee 1900 baht.

EDIT: Do not confuse 30 day visa exempt entry with a tourist visa. As LB says, you will need a visa for a stay of more than 30 days, and airline may not let you fly without one.
