Can someone please help me understand what I am supposed to be getting in terms of TOT internet. For years up to this last two weeks I have JI-net dial up. Always got on at 45K. Slow I know. Finally gave in and my wife and I signed up for 2M TOT. After they came out qand installed the modem, etc, the internet was fast, really fast COMPARED TO MY DIAL UP.

However, when I look at the diagnostics, it says I am getting 256K download and 128 upload. Other speed test actually indicate less than this. My main concern is that if I am paying for 2M, even though I know from reading TV, that I will actually get less, shouldn't my speeds be higher than what I'm getting. What should I do.

I have a feeling If I contact TOT and make an inquirery, I will get the answer that your on a 2M line and blah, blah, blah. Seems like this is false advertising.

I am willing to accept that I will not get the speed I'm paying for, but seems like I should get more than what I am actually getting.

Thanks in advance for serious help.

I had similar problems. I called TOT helpline and they advised me to ftp to my router to get the status page up and then tell them the upload and download speeds recorded on that page, and in my case the numbers were really low, and the noise levels were quite high.

They came out fixed the telephone line and it improved dramatically.

Hi

I have been fixing a few issues with connections on the TOT network with varied success. A few things you can check/try.

  1. login to ya modem web page (default is) 192.168.1.1 or sometimes 192.168.0.1
  2. Username: admin pass: tot or TOT or admin (most common password for default tot modems)
  3. Check ya connection status for ADSL and/or internet. esp line SNR (signal to noise ratio) and attenuation
  4. High SNR is good eg. 20+, low Attenuation is good eg. > 30.
  5. unsure of the DSLAM's used in your area but here they only run GMT mode (not so good) and long copper cable runs and esp if it is on the ground can hurt its performance so a re-run of the copper can help.
  6. The modems supplied are often very cheap and often perform poorly when hot so just keep an eye on it to see if its over-heating and if the performance changes after it has been turned off for a while and cooled down.
  7. the Performance over TOT network in my experience is poor but to Bangkok on a 2mg line you should get at least 1.5 mg as a guide, international traffic could be anything so dont be suprised by 0.20mg or less esp on the entry plan.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
