I would like to draw on the experience of fellow posters in regard to an O-A visa,

I am British and my understanding is that I can only apply in the United Kingdom is that correct?

What are the criteria for applying for an O-A visa and where do make an application?

I understand that the visa last for a 12month period, and that you need to report to immigration every 90days. Do you need to show 800,000baht in a Thai bank account when you 90day report.

At the end of the 12period if you leave the country and re-enter are you given another 12month extension? If so how many days are you allowed before or after your expiry date at the end of the 12month period?

Assuming you obtain another 12month extension do you need to show immigration money in your Thai bank account i.e. 800,000 baht during the second 12month period?

Finally, is there a limit on the number of years you can receive theses 12 month extensions?

1. Apply in country of residence (not Thailand) using procedure of Embassy involved. Check Thai Embassy London for details.

2. Basic is over age 50 with 800k/65k (in a bank account or income), a medical report and a police report. Money must be in Thailand for yearly extensions of stay inside Thailand - not for visa issue.

3. If you obtain a multi entry non immigrant OA visa any entry during the one year validity will result in a new one year permitted to stay stamp - so can be used for almost two years. This is not an extension but a new visa entry.

4. All extensions will require money to be in Thailand - your lifetime is the limit.

As Lopburi said, you apply in the country where you have your residence. If you have lived in several countries, you will need a police clearence from each of these countries.

You can also get a non-O visa, this will give you only 90 days after which you have to apply for an extension of stay for one year. But you can apply in every country and don't need to get a police clearence or health cerificate.

No, you do not need to show any savings or income when you do a 90-day report.

BTW, you only do a 90-day report if you remain in Thailand the entire 90 day period. If you do any travel outside Thailand, then the 90-day clock resets to day #1 on your day of re-entry to the kingdom.

Also, there is no fee/charge for the 90-day report. It is free and simple to do.
