Hi

When appling for a non-immigrant "B" visa am I right in thinking you can only stay in the country for 90 days at a time? Also that this costs £45? I have read about a multiple entry visa costing £100 that lasts a year but it seems quite expensive. I have a mountain of documents that arrived the other day from my employer, might they change anything?

cheers

Your non B is dependent on employment. You get 90 days from immigration and then a year (9 month extension) before the 90 days expires giving you a year on that visa. I think I paid 2000 baht for the original Non B stamp and then 1,900 baht (3 months later) for the extension.

A single entry visa will give you 90 days permission to stay. A multi-entry visa is valid for one year, giving 90 days permission to stay on each entry. Do a border run just before the visa expires and you will get a further 90 days permission to stay, stretching the visa to 15 months.

You can apply for extension of stay based on employment during the last 30 days of permission to stay, as long as you meet the financial requirements. That is about 50k per month salary for a westerner, but does vary on nationality. Your employer must also be able to provide 2 years audited accounts and tax returns. The advantage of extension of stay is there is no need to do border runs every 90 days, but instead you would have to report your address to immigration every 90 days. Most immigration offices will accept notification by post.

You will also need to obtain a work permit to work.
