I got a Marriage visa last year through an agent and so have no idea what is involved, it runs out on the 7th Oct, I was wondering if I could get a new one myself in thailand or do I need to go to Malaysia to get one, any advise would be great

There isn't a marriage visa exactly. Do you have a one year multiple entry "O" visa or a one year "extension of stay" based on marriage? If you have a multi-entry visa, you may be able to exit the country before the 7th and re-enter for another 90 days before obtaining another visa.

As said, there is no marriage visa. What you probably have is a multiple non-O visa, whcih requires you to leve the country every 90 days. By leaving and re-entering just before the visa expiresyou can get a new 90 days and so get a total of almost 15 months out of it.

You can extend your permission to stay in Thailand for 1 year and every year after it if you meet one of the following criteria:

have an income of 40,000 THB per month

OR

have 400,000 THB in a bankaccount in Thailand for at least 2 months

If maried to a Thai you can also get a 60 day extension of stay for 1,900 baht on show of the marriage certificate.

We really need to know what you have. Is it a one year extension of stay from an immigration office in Thailand or a visa for 90 day stays valid for one year issued by a Consulate? Did you have to show 400k in bank or 40k per month income?

I Got mine done through an agent who charged a small fee but was really smooth.U can contact him Raggie 0816200236.

As has been pointed out there is no such thing as a marriage visa. You obtained a one year extension of stay (not a visa). It requires 400k in bank account for 3 months (2 months for first application). It also requires wife but should not need any agent.

As said it depends on what you are asking about.

If you are asking about a 12 month extension from Immigration it is quite straight foreward and no need to waste money on agents.

If you are talking about a Non Imm O Visa , a trip to the Thai Embassy in KL is a good bet .

The Rule for the 12 month extension.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Thanks for the response.

I needed to have 400,000 baht in my bank account when I applied for the visa, I have two stamps in my passport one is NON IMM multiple entry re-entry permit valid till 7th oct & also pattaya immigration office extension of stay valid till 7th oct

Are there any other documents required for the 60 day Mario? My 400k for an extension will be in the bank for 2 months prior to the renewal (which is in early Oct) but due to a mistake by my bank in the UK the money took some time to arrive and I'm cutting it a bit fine between my current extension expiring and the amount of time the moneys been in the bank if they ask for some more paperwork which I neglected to bring or whatever. At least a 60 day extension will give me some breathing space to get my sh3t together.

Proof of Marriage is enough for the 60 day extension. Also do not forget the passport size photo.

You may well find that the 400,000 Baht has to be in the bank for 3 months before the 12 month extension application.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission

will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto.

You have a one year extension of stay which expires soon - you and wife should visit Immigration with bank passbook/copies and letter from bank of account balance (which have been 400k or above for 3 months by most accounts now for second application). Copy passport pages from original visa onwards and photo page(s)/departure card. Marriage certificate/copy and the extra ledger page that District Office now provide (Kor Ror 2). Have wife ID card/copy; her home register (blue book)/copy and some photos (may not need) and map to house (may not need). Have new photos 4x6cm for TM7 forms and 1,900 baht for fee. If you want a multi re-entry permit wait until you get final extension as they are only valid for time remaining. You can do this now and if anything missing have time to gather it up. Expect you will need 2 copies of everything at Pattaya.

Thanks all. This is my first extension using the 400k route (previously I used my wifes salary) and NK immi said 2 months was ok.

Getting to Pattaya is a problem at the moment, I'm offshore on an oil rig in australia, but can get to immigration when i return on the 1st Oct, is that cutting it too close if the extention of stay is good till 7th Oct, also do you have any idea how long it takes to get passport back after extention and re-entry have been added. Reason being I may have to leave the contry to get to work around 20th Oct.

You can not get there from here.

A support Thai wife extension of stay takes 30 days, or more. If you are over age 50 and have twice the amount in bank you could obtain for retirement next day. If not your best bet is probably to obtain a one year multi entry non immigrant O visa from KL - a show of your current bank book/copy of wife ID and home register should be all that is required (other than money/photo/form). This allows stays of up to 90 days each and no re-entry permit required for your frequent travel.

Perth or Brisbane would also be good options for visa issue.

My office said if already on extension of stay then the bank money has to be in for 3 months.

Had last year extension on salary and wanted to get the bank option this year.

Luckily I could go for the salary option once more because I only had the cash in bank for 2 months.
