Maptaput Immigration

It appears in my half day away the topic I wanted to respond to has been closed and another topic has been opened and closed already.

I hoped to get in a reply to the original topic but I'm forced to open this topic in reply. I talked with the supervisor today before noon for about 15 minutes and this is what I learned

I went in there with a need to make my normal 90 day report and it just happened to be a little slow and the main lady was sitting out in front at the information table. So I asked if we could chat a bit as I had a few questions. She was more than happy to help.

The first question on my mind was that of the OP from the topic yesterday which concerned the "new rule" that there were no more extensions using the combo method of pension letter and money in the bank.

Here now is the question I asked the supervisor and the explanation I received. My Thai wife was also present and did some of the talking.

I asked if there were 3 ways to renew a 1 year retirement extension. 1 using 800k baht or more in the bank? 2 using a pension letter showing an income of 65k baht or more per month? 3 using a combination of a pension letter showing any amount of income per month and funds in a bank account totaling 65k baht or more per month.

I wrote these figures on paper for her to look over and not get confused. I also used an example of a person having a 50k baht per month income on a pension letter and 200k baht in the bank. I asked if this person could renew the extension based on those numbers.

She whipped out her calculator and said of course this person would exceed the 65k baht per month income. She further stated that the money in the bank needed to be seasoned. I was surprised at this statement so I asked again and I had my wife ask. She kept answering the money needed to be in the account 2 or 3 months depending on if the extension is the first or second one. But the clear fact is the combo method in Maptaput is still a valid method to extend. I am still puzzled at the seasoning of the money as I always believed this was not the case for the combo method. But I use the full pension method so it does not concern me.

I went on to say that on the previous day a customer there had reported that this combo method was no longer valid. She explained via my wife that a falang did come in yesterday and had some issue and brought in his laptop and discussed the issue with them and showed them something on the internet from his laptop to convince them to give the extension. I cannot say if this person is the same one that opened the topic. I also cannot say why the person had to bring in his laptop. It was not disclosed to us what the issue was.

The discussion was if a combo method was acceptable at Maptaput and based on my discussion with the supervisor I would say it is still a valid means of extending a 1 year extension. I don't think it was ever not acceptable and so nothing has changed.

As to the OP and the topic I am not sure what prompted topic here on TV as he stated he did get his extension.

Maybe he will come on here and explain this further.

I do not want to carry the rumor on so if a mod thinks this is adding more fuel to the rumor fire feel free to close this topic as well. I just wanted to get my trip report in.
