Thailand Must Be Good For Your Health.

This is a GOOD true story. A Norwegian guy came into a bar and was talking to the other farangs. He was looking for a good-hearted trustworthy Thai lady to take care of his rather difficult friend. One of the over the hill bar girls asked him to bring his friend in because she was interested in the job. The guy came back the next day with an old fat man in a wheelchair. The guy spoke no English or Thai. He was also a crotchety old fart and yelled a lot. The story went that his family had had him put into a nursing home. He was so crotchety that the nursing homes kept throwing him out. Since the old man had been to Bangkok and he wanted to come and live here. His family finally agreed and his friend brought him over. Within a month he was hobbling around with his girl helping him along. She said that he is very heavy and it was very difficult to give him his shower but she was managing. She was quite happy because he was giving her food, a nice place to stay plus 10,000 baht a month salary. She said he doesn’t yell at her near as much now as he first did.

A year later I see him walking with a cane down Soi 7 in Jomtien. He was moving right along. He recognized me and gave me a huge grin. That was the first time I had ever seen him even smile.

To top off this story I ran into his girlfriend a week or so later and asked her about the old man. She got tears in her eyes and told me that he asked her to leave because he wanted to butterfly. Amazing Thailand! :o

At least he was straight to her unlike most of us that try to get the best of both worlds so to speak. Pity for the girl though.

Where's the good story? Maybe amongst the low/pond/bar life of your social network. What a ridiculous post.

:o Fair play to the old bugger.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. :o

Well she got a 10,000B a month job out of it and he's got his horn back! Winners all round!

Sam, I suggest you stay in the UK and sponge off mommy and daddy a while longer. It's obvious to me that you are not mature enough to realize that someday you will be old and it is possible that someone will put you in a nursing home to get rid of you. That old man got a break, most do not. :o

Each to their own brov. He came here ill and is now feeling better. ITs amazing how the good weather, great food and the pooying can make you feel heaps better. Fair play to him. Some day you will be old and you can look back at him for inspiration. Maybe?

Spot on post Jockstar!

Whoops, seems like I touched a nerve  :D

I suppose you did in a way. When I resumed my aquaintance with LOS 10 years ago,I was a chronic alcaholic with nothing in the bank just living for booze.OK I used to sober up and go back to work every now and then and earn big money, but I used to spend it quicker than I earned it. Eight years ago I met my wife and we settled in UK travelling to Thailand three of four times a year. I cut down on the booze and we opened a Thai Supermarket. Three years ago we moved to Thailand, and two years ago I knocked booze on the head completely.I now own 46% of my company, have four houses,a fleet of hire cars, six motor bikes to hire and two restaurants. Yes it does touch a nerve when you slag paople off for making good from an immpossible position :o

Perhaps siamsam felt the old b@stard wasn't deserving of his good fortune, which is certainly understandable. Yes, we all get old... but it's a personal choice to be as mean as he was. He's a "taker"... he took advantage of all the good things Thailand has to offer... and how does he "pay" it back? By dumping the woman that helped him all along to get to the point where is able to get along without her. IMHO, he's just an old b@stard still, just more selfish than ever.

I thought this thread was going to be about how the healthy aspects of Thailand like good food, travelling opportunities, etc; not some old geezer taking advantage of some poor, uneducated bar girl. Perhaps a SAD, true story would have been a better introductory sentence.

He was pretty cold how he handled the situation but she came out of it quite well. She ended up getting married to a Norwegian friend of his. That guy speaks no Thai or English either so she was able to communicate with him from what she learned from the old man. They had a baby and he bought her a condo to live in. I lost track of the old man. I wonder how he is doing?

There we go. Her story continues and hopefully, the tough old b@stard is still learning too.

That's why I say: Gals, just dig as much as you can from their wallets before you get dumped!
