Cabbie charged with rape

A taxi driver has been arrested and charged with raping a British national teaching at an international school on Koh Samui in Surat Thani.

Chokchai Sompong was arrested by Bo Phut police on Sunday and charged with raping the woman.

Bo Phut deputy police chief Paithoon Krajajang said the woman had identified Mr Chokchai at the police station as the man who attacked her.

Mr Chokchai has denied the charge.

The rape allegedly took place in the early hours of Saturday after the teacher flagged down Mr Chokchai's taxi after a night at a pub on Chaweng Beach.

He also robbed the victim of 1,700 baht in cash, police said.
