Centenary celebration of the abolition of Thai slavery

BANGKOK: -- A series of events are planned throughout April to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of slavery in Thailand, the Permanent Secretary for Culture, Khun Ying Dhipavadee Meksawan, told TNA on Thursday.

The main programme will be a eulogy to King Rama V the Great at the Royal Plaza on 1 April, the day he made the historic decision to end centuries of slavery in Thailand.

The day will start with an alms giving for a hundred Buddhist monks at 6:00 a.m.

An exhibition of the end of slavery will be held at the National Library from 1-30 April.

The classic movie 'Luk Thas' (children of slaves) will be screened free of charge at the National Chronicle Hall between 1-5 April, Khun Ying Dhipavadee said.

Yes, we as humans have come so far as enlightened being we stopped all offical institutional slavery. However, we decided it was best to leave all forms of unoffical government supported slavery alive and well. So, sorry to all those in sweat shops and forced into boats to work in sweat shops of other countries. But to all of those free you can buy the clothes they make. oh happy day!

Limited Labour laws mean some form of slavery still well and truly exists.
