I am HIV+ and go twice a year to Bumrungrad (which has an excellent Doc / Dr. Mondej Sokpranee) and was very happy with their services and pricing. I am on following cocktail since two years: 300 mg tablet called Viread and Lamivir (Lamivudine) 300 mg and 600 mg called Stocrin. My next visit is due in November and I need some information before I go. The economic downpour also affected my finances, so I have to make compromises in my life, and trying to reduce the cost of meds would be one of them. Now I heard that it is possible to get the meds at pharmacies at a lower price. I imagine the docs wouldn't like it and so my question is:

How do you get a prescription from your doc at Bumrungrad for the meds to by in a pharmacy?

Which pharmacy has hiv meds stored?

Do they have the same as the hospitals? I mean is the Stocrin really Stocrin or some fake replacement, like it is with a lot of other medications you can buy in pharmacies for a cheaper price?

Thanks for your reply

I have been seeing specialists at Bumrungrad for years for my diabetes, heart condition, glaucoma prostate problems, and I rarely buy any meds at the hospital - in fact if I had I would be broke by now.

They know I buy all my meds outside and they don't mind at all - it's up to you where you buy your meds, you just pay for their consultations, blood tests etc. After all, you must have already spent a fortune there so they can't complain.

I doubt if you need a prescription for your meds - I get all mine at pharmacies without one. But even if you do, just ask the doc to give you one.

In then unlikely that they won't oblige, you can just go to any clinic, and ask the doc there to write a prescription for a few hundred Baht, but I doubt that would be necessary.

As for pharmacies, I suggest Sheryl provide you with some names as I don't live in Bangkok.

I don't think regular phatrmacies can/will sell you these meds.

The least expensive source is the thai Red Cross anonymous clinic and they will honor prescriptionsp rovided by doctors elsewhere.

See details in the pinned notice on HIV treatment in Bkk.

Thanks a lot for your information. I can remember that I read about three years ago here "somewhere" in the forum in a post that someone was buying his HIV meds in a pharmacy opposite a hospital. But even after looking for over one hour, I didn't find the post anymore. As far as I can remember the hospital name started with S..., maybye Sirikit Hospital, or Sirichai Hospital. I am not from BKK, so it is quite difficult for me, just to go around and check it out. My time in BKK will be very limited due to work issues. I also imagined that they won't sell me these meds without a prescription, thats why I mentioned that I will get one beforehand from my Doc at Bumrungrad. I know Thai Red Cross and I have to say, they were unbelievable understanding, caring and informative in the first month after my diagnose. But anyway, after weeks traveling from one hospital to the other, I ended up in Bumrungrad and like I mentioned, the doc I met there i very, very knowledgable about infectious diseases and made by far the best impression of all dos I visited before. Also, the general doctors fee with 750,- THB seems quite reasonable, if one considers, that he had to all my questions answers and was even willing to discuss different appoaches or ways of coping woth HIV, which isn't 'normal' for docs. The only thing is, that the meds ther are getting expensive, thats why I am looking for other options. So I will check out Thai Red Cross. But nevertheless, if anyone know a pharmcy, who is selling these meds (the real ones!!), please let me know. Thank you very much in advance.

You are talking about Siriraj (sp) hospital.

Still with a prescription in hand you can buy your meds cheapest at Anonymous Clinic. Be Well.
