Greetings all. I know there has been some recent threads about Cambodia, here's another. I will be going to Siam Reap overland next Saturday and wanted to know what I will be letting myself in for:

Firstly, I'm better off getting the visa beforehand right?

Secondly, what can I expect at the border?

Thirdly, what is the condition of the road like from the border to Siam Reap?

Forthly, how much does a taxi typically cost?

Thanks

Makes little difference.
Secondly, what can I expect at the border?

Queues getting stamped out. Queues getting stamped in. Touts on mass.

Road to Siem Reap is 2/3 potholed cart track. Last 1/3 is tarmacked all the way into Siem Reap.

Taxi is $25 ask around on bus from Bangkok if anyone wishes to share the cost with you. Taxi will take four passengers.

Its a doddle.

After reading that web-site, the boarder at Poipet sounds like chaos. Always wanted to go to Cambodia and I prefer doing it on my own as opposed to getting on a tourist bus.

Fw1 - let us know how the trip goes as I would be interested to know what it's like doing it for the first time

For a 1st timer, I'd suggest a visa bus like jackgolf.com or his other Korean competitor. :o

I'm sure he could rtn a few days later on their coach without a problem as long as he is in the Thai coach park by 12:45.

A quick phone call to Jacks would clarify it.

These pics might give you an idea of the Poipet border!

Got the 3.30am bus from Mo Chit 2 and was in Siam Reap just on the stroke of midday. No problems getting across the border, distinct lack of beggars I thought. Took a taxi from the border to Siam Reap, easy trip.
