2 X-Pan

- Pizza

X-Pan (Medium)

Double Cheese (199)

- Pizza

X-Pan (Medium)

Meat Deluxe (199)

Price: 299

- Delivery Charge (30)

----------------------------------------------

Total: 329 baht

When did this nonsense start? Is Pizza Hut doing the same? Expect that is about a 10% increase in price on the average order with no value added.

Does your question imply that the delivery charge was from The Pizza Company Limited ?

Links: Free Delivery, For voucher - discount or BOGOF.

HTH.

To be fair the site does not say that it currently does free delivery, and Thai companies IMHO are slow at updating such things, their site is still carrying a promoation that ended in March this year.

I thought everywhere charged for delivery. McDonalds, KFC, Scoozi, Oishi, Chester's Grill etc all charge 20 or 30 baht.

Pizza Hut and The Pizza Company and the other pizza chains that operated here had always used free delivery as a major selling point if you ordered a pizza so an unannounced change in policy that ups the cost seems worthy of note to me.

Just received a current advertisement valid until 31 October and it still says free delivery for medium pizza over 150 baht. Double check on website and 30 baht extra for any order appears when you select any pizza.

I usually give 20 B to the driver.

I'd be interested to know if others tip, and if so how much.

So do I... THB 20 if it's only for myself, double if it's a large order.

Pizza Company close to where I am living, started to use motorbike-taxi several weeks ago. No more their own staff.

But when ordering they mention it on the phone that there is a surchage (THB 20 in my case!)

Ordered Pizza Hut the other day and they informed of the new charge. However they said the driver would give us a few coupons for free delivery - one of which we had to give back immediately. Complicated I know.

Always find it strange that a food company that makes its business on the fact it delivers charges extra for the priveledge of doing so. Would be a bit like a normal restaurant charging you to use a table.

I'd never looked at it that way, but yeah, fair point. Seems a bit odd.

Mind you I think its fair enough that if a restaurant sells delivery food at its sit down prices it charges a few baht for the courier. Margins in restaurants can be slim and its a competitive environment. If I order 500 baht worth from my favourite Greek place I have no problem shelling out 30 baht for delivery, and a small tip if the driver gets there fast.

I don't see anything odd about it, at all. A lot of money is spent on delivery people and warming ovens and so forth and one has the option of picking up the pizza yourself and "saving" the delivery fee.

However, I do think that Pizza Hut and Company are so overpriced that they could easily cover the price themselves.

Well UG, seeing as everyone is charging for delivery now, they could hide the fee in the price of food and offer it free as a competitive advantage. Places like this seem to think we are lucky to have such a service available and should pay extra to provide them with our business.

As for picking it up yourself, this is Thailand mate.

Alternatively, if they are concerned with the costs of people ordering a single fish burger and french fries or a pack of chicken wings, why not include free delivery with orders over xx baht?

All that being said, compared to other food delivery companies who mark up the food 30%, it's not that bad. Just wish they could teach the delivery drivers simple math such as 470 baht total and I give you 510, means 40 baht change. While on this rant, can they dispense with the 3 mins of chit chat about special offers at the start of the conversation and just take the order?

I agree with most of your points, but the fact that the delivery charge is 30 baht means that delivery is almost always cheaper than picking the pizza up yourself. They kind of have us over a barrel. :)

I just ordered my last Europizza over pizza.de because didn't fancy going out in the snow.

No separate delivery charge so the guy got a tip.

Next will be with my son in Thailand.

The heartburn remains the same, beer or no beer :)
