Wife asked the officer what documents they needed to ensure we had all our ducks in row. sufficient copies etc

We were told must "enroll" and this can only be doe in July a month when I am usually overseas

Any help welcome

What rank or officer should we go to next and is this just a ruse for a shake down or should I just live without it?

A link to the ministry mfa?

Thanking you all in anticipation

It probably depends on where you apply, but here in BKK you can apply any time of the year and if all docs are in order it only takes 2-3 days to have the yellow book issued.

I got mine earlier this year at a BKK Khet.

The mfa has nothing to do with the yellow Tabien Bahn apart from certifying some required documents.

The basics of what is needed is at this web-site: Yellow book

Use Google translate which does a good job on this site.

Look for the ท.ร.13 which is the yellow book (the 14 is the blue book for Thais) but the requirements are basically the same, only for us foreigners it is more work because we have to get everything translated into Thai and some papers need certification from the mfa.

Note: got your PM, will reply later today.

Thanks for a prompt reply

What office did uu deal with at the kehet please and what did you need from mfa?

I did it at the Khet Tungruh in BKK.

Docs that needed mfa certification were:

Had to translate my PP main page and my birth certificate into Thai (did it myself) and had to have the translation certified by my (German) embassy and then had to have the mfa certify that the certification from the embassy is legal (signed by an authorized, accredited diplomat).

Lot of leg work but no big deal, especially because my wife did all the leg work.

Got my Yellow Book late last year in Khet Talingchan in Bangkok. Took about 1.5 hours from walking into the door with required documents to walking out the door with Yellow Book in hand. Only dealt with two officers: the one who processed the paperwork/did the mini-interview (took about an hour), then over to see his supervisor who did some review and approval (took about 10 minutes), then back the the first official who finish processing the paperwork and issued the Yellow Book. Forget the cost of the Yellow Book but it wasn't very much. As far as I know you must apply in the district/khet office where you live. Each person's experience seems to vary greatly when applying for a Yellow Book...guess it has a lot to do with required documents and the office you must deal with.

I can confirm what Pib said.

It depends very much on your local Khet.

I did not have to pay a single Baht at the Khet (also no "tea-money"!), the only expenses were for certifications of documents at embassy and mfa.

Documents required were:

my PP translated and certified

my birth certificate translated and certified (they need to know the names of my parents in Thai script - according to them), and yes my parents names are listed in the book in Thai.

ID of my wife

Blue Tabien Bahn of our place

Marriage certificate

Birth certificate of our son

ID of house owner (my father-in-law)

Photo of me

We (my father-in-law as house owner, my wife and myself) had to go for a short interview and sign some papers.

Could have got the book on the spot but the officer responsible was on sick leave and they told us that they will call us when ready. They did call two days later and my wife went to pick up the book.

Easy and free if you have all the required documents.

Here in TanyaBuri it is much easier. I needed:

  • Passport
  • Wife's ID Card
  • Blue House registration
  • Names and DOB of my parents
  • 2 Fotos

And of course a copy of all above. Nothing had to be translated or certified by any agency. My wife was questioned about my job for about 5 minutes. The whole process took 2 weeks, because the stuff was lazy :) At the ned it was free and no tea money.

I can recomend the Amphoe here at Klong 6.

Agree, did mine in about one hour a couple years back at Klong 6. NO certifications from the U.S. Embassy or MFA required, had translations and copies from a service down on Sukumvit that were 10 years or so old, no problem. Believe I also had my birth certificate and our marriage license, from the U.S., and translations, again not "certified." Also the chanote for the house.

Staff not lazy the morning we went in, zapped right along.
