Hi. Our 5 month old baby is in need of an operation. We have sought advice from a few hospitals here in Phuket and were told it is a relatively small procedure. The last place we went was Bangkok hospital, where the very impressive surgeon explained in detail how it could easily get complicated. He suggested we go to Surat Thani, where they have pediatric university hospital. This is a government hospital, and I can't seem to find any information on it. Can anyone tell me anything about it, or if they have any experience with it

Hi!

Have not heard of any pediatric hospital in Suratthani and we stay in Samui with a 2,5-yearold girl.

What about going to Bangkok?

Samitivej Srinakarin childrens hospital in Bangkok is a good one though.

We have been there with our girl for specialist check ups a few times when she was younger.

I hope everything works out for your baby and that you get all the help you needs.

Take care,

/comehome.

Ps. A long shot is to call the Bangkok hospital here at Samui and ask for the pediatric department. Then ask if they know anything about a pediatric hospital in Suratthani. Many of the nurses are locals and some even from Suratthani so they might know. Might be worth a try. /ds.

Hi again!

How did it go?

Could they have meant the "Thaksin Hospital" or "Surat Thani hospital".

I don't know if their specialty is pediatrics but it is the only hospitals in Surat Thani i know of. There might be more.

I asked a friend and she said without a doubt that Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok is the best hospital over all.

She said they don't have thai price and farang price, they have same price for everyone.

She always takes her children all the way up to Bumrungrad if they need to see a doctor.

Do you have insurance for the baby?

If you have an insurance and the insurance company will pay a part or for the the operation operation, see which hospitals are included. Some insurance companies exclude Bumrungrad hospital if you don't have the platinumversion.

Just some thoughts, anyway.

Hope it works out well for your baby.

/comehome :)

Thanks for asking

We found a doctor in Phuket who is putting a little effort into helping us. He is sending us to Bangkok Hospital here in Phuket for an MRI. Then he will find a suitable pediatric surgeon. Our baby has Thai gov. ins. and the doctor is trying to get most of the procedures covered by that
